[Dsg-rich] Insurance for RICH mirror shipment

Mike, 

In follow-up to my e-mail sent earlier today I received a call from Patrizia. She was inquiring regarding the cost of the insurance that will be applied to the mirror shipments. I told Patrizia that that cost information is something that you can provide when coordinating the shipment. She would like to know the cost of insuring the shipments of the mirrors in advance. If the cost is prohibitive, she may opt not to insure them. 

Please coordinate with Patrizia to provide the cost to insure from the shipper in advance of the shipment and confirm whether they wish to bind the insurance before confirming the shipping order for the mirrors.

Good Morning Tyler, 

Past experience with providing insurance for high value shipments through our broker versus acquiring insurance through the freight company's insurance provider demonstrated that is was far more cost effective to acquire the insurance through the freight company's insurance provider. Before responding here, I discussed with Mike Gelhaar, who confirmed that he can secure the insurance needed from the freight company's insurance provider, who will be shipping the mirrors. Mike is on copy on this e-mail so that he can secure the requested insurance when coordinating the shipment with the freight company.

Hello Joe, 

We need to ship ten spherical mirrors for Hall B RICH detector. Since the mirrors are very expensive ($200k) and critical to the operation of RICH, we would like the shipment to be insured. We were directed to you by Mike Gelhaar to get insurance set up for shipments. 

We would like to ship the mirrors as soon as possible. Could you please let us know what needs to be done in order to get the insurance for the shipment so the mirrors can be shipped? Thank you for your help.

This cost does not include insurance charges. Most carriers have their own insurance for their trucks, but that usually covers a small amount. I believe Joe Scarcello handles getting insurance set up for particular shipments. What's the total value for the mirrors being sent out?
