Per direction of the Detector Support Group manager, in conjunction with
the Materials Handling SME and the area safety warden, all personnel
working within the clean room (EEL 124) must observe and be aware of a
materials handling task area. This area will be appropriately marked off
accordingly to the location of the gantry crane or other materials
handling device or lift (Bil-jax manlift).
During a lift or any other task where lifting (equipment or personnel)
is being performed, all persons working within the cordoned off area
must don hardhats and safety shoes during any materials handling task.
This includes any personnel performing, directing, or observing the lift.
Any personnel not wearing a hardhat and safety shoes must be behind a
placed marking barrier. Since the gantry crane is mobile, the barrier
will change in accordance to the lift.
This will reduce the chance of an injury while Jlab and INFN staff are
focused on multiple tasks in the clean room. I will post signage and
provide hardhats for use in the cleanroom. If you need safety shoes,
please talk with your Jlab contact or supervisor as appropriate.
