[Dsg-rich] [EXTERNAL] meeting with DSG

Hi All,

The current RICH compressors do not have the air flow capacity to supply 2 detectors even if both of them are operating. These compressors were selected based on a requirement to supply a total of 600 slm air to cool 2 detectors or 300 slm per detector. That original air flow requirement was low by a factor of 3. The current compressors are rated for a duty cycle of up to 50%. That means compressor is running no more than 50% of the time. We see from actual operation it has been running at 90% duty cycle since the RICH was installed in Hall B. The current compressors are simply not designed for that. The current compressors need replaced by ones with significantly larger air flow capacity that have a 100% duty cycle, which means it is rated for continuous operation.

The RICH detectors require significantly larger capacity air compressors such that a single compressor can supply all six sectors during continuous operation at or near 100% duty cycle. I have identified such a unit and am awaiting a quote from the company.

Cheers,
George

Hi Tyler,
thank you for the minutes, just one clarification.
The system should have both compressors working together routinely, and,
ideally, in case of failure of one compressor, the second should be able
to supply both RICHs for short periods, until the broken one is
repaired.
Best regards,
Marco
