[Dsg-rich] [EXTERNAL] RICH hardware

so, if we assume that nitrogen is being supplied by the auxiliary banks, the instant the network crashes, we should have someone check the rotameters after 2 days (max) and have them replace the nitrogen banks.

but this is the worst case scenario.
hopefully the network outage isn't more than a day.

  1. so, if the network fails, guess we are flying blind, till the network comes back, right?

Correct.
Someone could always go physically look at the rotameters/flow meters in the hall though.

  1. how long will the auxiliary nitrogen last?

The backup banks will last ~3 days.

Hi Valery,

The cRIO has no control ability over the N2 flow. It is monitoring only.

All flows for RICH are set using manual rotameters.

The alarms are done on the EPICS side and will still work as long as there is network communication.

Tyler

Hi Tyler,
Thanks for the detailed reply.
I guess that cRIO will control the N2 flow in addition to the temperatures and humidity, right? We will get alarm if the N2 flow will go lower 20 slm. Current flow is 40.
Thanks,
Valery

Hi Valery,

The cRIOs will stay online as long as there is power and will be able to communicate over the network as long as there is network. Since RICH will be completely powered off, the cRIO will just be for monitoring the temperatures and humidity inside the detector.

The N2 flow to the RICH will continue; there are no remote controls, so even if power/network are lost, RICH should still get N2.

The three dry boxes with aerogel in the EEL building will stay on as long as there is power. The dry boxes are also connected to a UPS that can keep them powered for ~1 hour if power is lost.

Best regards,
Tyler

Hi All,
The RICH detector will be shut down tomorrow morning.
N2 will stay ON. I will write to Bob about cRio boxes to keep them ON.
Epics will be operating.

Tyler, could you please tell us about cRios that we need them to be online all the time and about cabinets with aerogel? We need the cabinets be on all the time.

Thanks,
Valery

Hi,
as JLab is being locked down, we should check RICH is put in
safe conditions. At a ariance with the past, no RICH expert
will get access to the Hall.

I think we can switch off everything, excpet the N2 flow and
the cRios for nonitoring. If I am not mistaken we have 2
cRios: do we need both on ?

We should check with Tyler if he will have remote access to
the cRios for debugging possible issues with the cRio
themself.

Do I miss anything ?

Thanks, Marco.
