[dsg-hallb_rich] new RICH dry cabinet procurement - nitrogen connection

Dear Tyler,

Sorry for my late reply to your e-mails. Of course I concur on having the dry cabinet and nitrogen rotameter connection in two separate shipments.
In addition, since you said that DSG should be able to easily do the connection, in case we need it urgently we can have an “home-made” version

Thanks for your work on this subject

Cheers
patrizia

Hello,

I've received the response below from Super Dry with more info on their warranty and also yet another question.

All of the dry cabinet's components have a one year warranty. The drying unit has an additional two-year "pro-rata" warranty. From Google, this seems to mean that they will replace or repair the drying unit, but the fact that the drying unit is used and therefore it's value is depreciated will be taken into consideration.

The question they now have is whether we would be okay getting the dry cabinet and nitrogen rotameter connection in two separate shipments. The cabinet looks to be able to be delivered to JLab in about 6 weeks. The N2 connection will not be available until 9 weeks from now. He says the N2 connection is "designed for field retrofit" so we should be able to easily do the connection ourselves.

I don't see any reason we should not get the dry cabinet and rotameters in two separate shipments since that would in turn let us receive aerogel earlier. Does anyone else feel differently?

Hi Tyler,

We warranty all parts for one year. The dry unit, which is the main operating component, has an additional two years pro rata warranty. There are very few components that can fail, and there are no maintenance or consumable items. The cabinets are intentionally designed in a very modular fashion to enable quick, simple screws and plugs exchange of any failed items without the need for skilled technicians. Factory maintenance personnel are typically who we interface with when there is an issue.

With regard to your N2 emergency option. This will not be available for dispatch until week 9. I do not know if you need the cabinet sooner. All of our options are designed for field retrofit, and this can be delivered separately with the cabinet shipping sooner. Two lockrings and a cable plug are the extent of the retrofit. The enclosure is already prepared for the option.

We can organize the schedule either way. Cabinet transport time is typically 3-4 weeks. The cabinet itself can dispatch in about two weeks. The valve assembly if separate, ships as a parcel which is less than a week.

Let me know.

Best,

Rich

Hello Dr. Rossi,

I received a reply to my inquiry to Super Dry about their other options for connecting nitrogen to the new dry cabinet. They have offered an option to include a rotameter and connection that will turn on in the event of a power loss to help protect the aerogel. This option will be $900.

Since the $2,030 auto-flow nitrogen connection will be removed from the PR, the overall cost of the dry cabinet will be slightly reduced to ~$21,000.

In addition to this connection from Super Dry, DSG is in the process of designing our own "aerogel fail-safe" system . This fail-safe system will utilize a fails-open electric solenoid valve that will open nitrogen flow to the dry cabinet on a power outage. We would also be able to open this valve programmatically to purge the cabinet with nitrogen in the event that the internal humidity increases beyond ~5% RH. More details on this aerogel fail-safe system will be coming in the next week.
