Hi Sandro

I will ask about the machining process. They told me that the actual work is better than the quote, but they cannot quote a tolerance that tight.

Hi Marc,
I will check with Dario and Marco if  we can accept those tolerances. The risk is that some element does not fit the panel.
In my opinion they should use  water jet to produce the panel.
For the aluminum alloy if they have problem to procure the one I indicated or it is expensive, than they can use any aluminum alloy already have in house.

The tolerance given is too tight for GandR to provide a quote. They propose:



Standard for the peripheral and large penetrations would be +-.125''. Hole size and pattern +-.032''.



Will this work for your design? If so, I believe they will see if they can source the aluminum you specified. If they can source the materials, they will probably quote the project. So far we requested quotes from two companies, GandR is one of them, and the other shop declined to quote.


The Jlab machine shop estimate is $2000. I would like to get another quote just to gauge the Jlab estimate.

The general tolerance should be better than +-0.1 mm.

For the aluminum grade consider that Al6082 T6 is good or equivalent.
