Hello Brad,
We are ready to procure the wires to make the 140' multi-conductor cables for NPS.
We would like to know just how many internal conductors will be needed, 42 or 52?
We have received a price for the 42-conductor wire (which can be used for the 36 channel CAEN modules) of $4.45/ft for 6000 ft. of wire.
We would need to get a price for the 52-conductor wire. This would be for modules that have 48 channels, if in the future you want to use such modules.
At the moment, I believe that all modules to be used will be the 36 channel type so the 42-conductor wire should be sufficient, is this correct?
There is a lead time of 4 to 5 weeks for the wire.
In regards to the length of the wire, we are investigating if the manufacturer (General Wire) can cut the wire to a specified length.
If this is possible, we would purchase 34 142' spools.
If the manufacturer cannot cut the wire to length for us, then we would purchase six 1000' spools and Hall C technical staff would need to cut the wire to length of 142' (leaving ~2 ft. extra for each wire for cable fabrication).
We already have a quote from CAEN for the 52-pin Radiall connectors (40 connectors totaling $17,587).
There is a 12 week lead time for the connectors.
While waiting for a response from the French engineering team regarding the SAMTEC connectors, we are researching alternatives that will work for the operating voltage of 1100 V.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out via the mailing list.
Best regards,
Aaron Brown
