Hi Eric/Steven,
Since you guys are listed as the DAs for Hall C for pressure systems I figured I'd run this by you first to make sure what we're trying to do is actually correct/safe.
We'd like to test one of the chillers (we need to test drivers and that requires fluid/flow in the chiller so it doesn't immediately interlock itself) that will be used for NPS by connecting the supply/return together through a few feet of tubing. The chiller will be using distilled water, a few feet of 1/2" OD tubing and a max pressure of 125 psi.
I found a paper by PNNL that has an equation for calculating the stored energy (page 10 of the PDF equation 1.2)
https://www.pnnl.gov/main/publications/external/technical_reports/PNNL-18696.pdf
If that is the correct equation the stored energy of the system is extremely small and it should fall under an excepted system which means we wouldn't need to get you guys involved with the formal paperwork of a pressure system.
Could you confirm that is the case?
Thanks
Brian
