The connectors were ordered yesterday with next day service, however Newark did not ship them yesterday. I am contacting them to find out why and when we should expect them.

Mindy,
I talked with Simona. As you said in the hall way, that new connectors are better. So we would like to go ahead with
continue swapping the SMA connectors with the new ones on the cables that Simona gave you. We are down for target work for today and
Thursday ( possibly Friday).
Even with those, we still need more than these connectors replaced. We will have to decide between the types that Mark T ordered.
Hopefully they get here today or tomorrow to test out. Then we can decide which to order. As of now it looks like
we need about 60-70 SMA connectors swapped out.
Thanks for your help with this. It is very important for the NPS experiment.
Cheers,
Mark

The cables you brought have been reworked. The SMA connectors were swapped with the new ones you provided. Armen tested the HV side of the cable. The cables are in the fast electronics lab.

Hi Mark
Thanks for your reply
I needed the board over the weekend, I didn't take it because I thought you wouldn't need it but nobody was using it during the weekend and I had to test something. I will drop it off in 20 min
I am glad the problems with the cables are understood
I will try to make it work with 1/2 inch shorter but not more unfortunately
I dropped off bunch of cables on your desk this morning
Do you think I can have one repaired to the best of everyone's abilities so I can use it today as soon as possible to look at some weirdness I am seeing with the detector that may come from a bad cable?
I am looking to use a "solid" cable to eliminate it out of the list of things that are wonky
Many thanks for your help with this, it is very much appreciated
I will see you in a bit when I drop off the board
Simona

Hello Simona and All,
On Friday I said the pins had fallen out due to maybe the pin not being crimped. I was having a difficult time getting the pin to crimp on Wednesday night making one cable. This was not the case with Mindy's cables. The pins were crimped on the cables that were brought to us on Friday and the pins are still connected. There was no issue with the crimp. What happened was during the repair the center conductor was pulled back and caused the pin to pull back into the coax connector. As Mindy pointed out the cables are so short that the center conductor is easily pulled back. A longer cable would not have probably seen this issue. We all(Mindy, Armen, and myself) now understand the issue and I would not say it will not happen again but we now know to look for the problem.
We think we can still repair the bad cables however we would need to make them a bit shorter. (Not much) If the cables were ½ inch to 1 inch shorter would this cause an issue? We would keep them as long as we can. If this would make them to short we can make new cables but repairing is easier than making new.
Also Simona, I'm not sure if you took the spare board today or Friday but we need that here to test the cables at voltage. We have seen problems and the only way to see the problem is with that board. I might have even have said it was okay to take not thinking.
Thanks,
Mark Taylor

Hello
When I picked up good cables from Mark T. on Friday I noticed that both the HV and the signal pins were missing for bunch of them. Mark was pretty sure they were there when he inspected the cables earlier.
Mark thinks that the wrong size crimping tool was used to make the cables which is why he was having issues making a new cable few days ago.
Mark T., please comment on this. If a different size crimping tool is needed, we shouldn't have new cables being made with the one used before.
Thanks
Simona

To date ~20 spares have been provided. I will work on an additional 20 this week.

10 very short term like before Friday
And 20 as spares to start the experiment with
Many thanks

Hello Mark and Simona,
Mindy was able to find enough parts that she will be able to make at least 100 spares if needed. All parts are on site. I know we are discussing making more than 100 maybe even 1200.
Mindy sees the problem with the 4 cables that are shorted. I know the concern is insulation may be melted on more than 4. We could test any questionable cable to 1500V(As Ben suggested).
Mindy has a meeting at 2:00 today and she will discuss with Amrit the need for more cables. Please advise on how many we are requesting Mindy to make, I think the thought was 20 for the immediate need.
Thanks,
Mark Taylor
