[dsg-halld_magnets] Hall D Solenoid PXI

Hi Brian,

At this time we try to keep the alarm settings for PXI PVs using a BURT file. But we would like them to be set at the LabView start time instead. The setting we have for PXI PV is the BURT file are these:

HallD-PXI:Status:State.LOLO 1 1.5
HallD-PXI:Status:State.LLSV 1 2
HallD-PXI:Status:Error.OSV 1 2

I suspect they are already set in PXI, but need to be checked. And there is a problem reading or writing to "HallD-PXI:Status:State.LLSV" ChannelAccess variable from our computers, which I assume is because the limit variables are not served by CA-server.

If PXI had a real IOC and not a CA-server, LINK alarm would result in a MAJOR or INVALID severity. But the LINK alarm states for these PVs are themselves probably bogus.

Hovanes.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for responding even though you're off!

We can see those PV's - I used an old screenshot just capture the PV names. What's more important for us is how the alarm fields are configured for those PV's. We want to make sure we are notified when PXI is unhealthy - I presume this would be based on the "Error" PV. Can you tell us how the alarm fields for that PV are configured?

We are finished testing the Solenoid for 2024, so feel free to reboot as needed.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi Josh,

I have/am on vacation and periodically catch up with emails.

I was hoping to use Kiosk mode since it's running an IoT version of Windows, but so far haven't had much luck with that. I'll try seeing if just putting in the startup items folder will do the trick (let me know when it's okay to reboot the controller so we can see if it does try to run it).

As for those PVs, I'm not sure what is going on, both of them have values currently (and when I try to read them from another machine the .stat field is LINK and .sevr is NO_ALARM). State is just a number/enum represent what state the PXI is in, and Error is the boolean output of the LabVIEW error cluster.

Hi DSG Folks,

I'm seeking support for the Hall D Solenoid PXI system - see original email below.

Is someone available to help?

Thanks,

Joshua Ballard

Hi Brian,

We're working through the beginning steps of Solenoid commissioning and have a few questions about the PXI.

  1.
Beni has instructions for remoting in and restarting the application after a power cycle. Since it is now Windows, is it possible to restart the application using a .bat file on startup (or something like that)?

  2.
There are two EPICS PV's that seem to represent the state/health of PXI.
[cid:487b339f-b916-48f4-ace3-1c6f4db65052]
For these PV's - what do the values of these PV's indicate?
For these PV's - can you update the alarm fields so they show up in our alarm handler as expected (MAJOR/MINOR, etc..)?

Thanks,

Josh
