Good morning / afternoon everybody,
a brief status update. It would be fair to say that we are still in a late commissioning state, using 8x8 6mm pixel field (and now also 8x8 3mm pixel field) of the older L01e board and a 20um pore tile #126:
- LAPPD pixel timing is adjusted against the t0 Planacon, and pixel amplitudes are eventually evaluated in a fixed time window with respect to this t0, by using NIM puls digitization across all modules;
- Argonne's t0 Planacon works fine, but I doubt it will ever produce a timing reference required for a meaningful time of flight measurement; we should actually consider installing a radiator;
- Argonne's second Planacon does not perform well, and Junqi will look into accommodating the Genoa one later today or tomorrow;
- except for the late evening yesterday, when we first installed the aspheric lens, we were working in a multi-photon mode with the p.e.'s produced in the LAPPD window; the signals are typically large, hundreds of mV;
- LAPPD clustering code in this mode is functional, and there is a clear correlation between the GEM tracker and the LAPPD cluster position, so the equipment in the DAQ seems to be all in sync; position resolution of the multi-photon blob (p.e.'s produced by a 120 GeV proton in a 5mm thick quartz window) in this mode is of no real interest imho, but - for the record - it is about ~1.5mm RMS;
- the prospects of the accelerator are not clear yet, but they expect to be able to run the whole day today; tomorrow it will be up to 97F in the Chicago area, and the accelerator complex cooling system may eventually run out of capacity as we know (like it was last year);
- LAPPD tile #136 (full glass body, 10um MCP pores) was shipped to Fermilab today; we should swap it in (and exchange the readout board to the ring imaging L03c new one) tomorrow, potentially using the accelerator downtime;
Let's have a meeting 9am NY time tomorrow on zoom
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__bnl.zoomgov.com_j_1619779791-3Fpwd-3DTUtVak9TMjdsb05CbkVrZmh2a2JzZz09&d=DwIFAg&c=CJqEzB1piLOyyvZjb8YUQw&r=0VBdOvqL6z81ORln2nJUCLdQ71K5DZBpevuC59uaEF4&m=-3gI1OAh2uAF1OXoovGA_dxbnSutwtsyCZu7KkT1FbRwOhAVtg7uYEnPVClaR7Ze&s=VZVx5mIRP-Jg5LD4fOyp56S0UJG-OrUuyOeAeKazNUo&e=
, by which time we know whether the accelerator survived the day of today (the temperatures will go a bit down as of Wednesday), and a meaningful projection can be made for the remaining five days of running.
Regards,
Alexander.

Dear All,
we passed the ORC today. The detectors are all installed, including a 20um pore LAPPD 126, a pair of Planacons, and a GEM tracker, and we believe the DAQ is in a useable state.
Sanghwa will be populating

directory with more pictures as the time goes.
We can set up a zoom call around noon time on Friday, if people think it is due, but the problem is that with a heat wave in the Chicago area the accelerator is temporarily down, and on the other hand our work plan for the commissioning phase once it is back online is pretty much clear (first the tracker, then the Planacon alignment and timing, then LAPPD timing on a multi-photon Cherenkov blob produced in the LAPPD window, then everything else), so there is not much of the actual program to discuss at this point. Let me know what you think and we can have a zoom call tomorrow if needed.
Best regards,
Alexander.

Dear All,
the operations readiness committee will make its final review of our setup on Thursday, starting at 10:30am. Therefore the anticipated 9am daily meeting is cancelled.
Regards,
Alexander.

Subject: Re: LAPPD beam test meeting @ 9am NY time Thursday June 9th
Dear All,
our installation here at Fermilab is delayed by one day, primarily because we are a bit shorthanded (presently Bob, Martin, Sanghwa and Junqi work in the area). It is supposed to be finished tomorrow late afternoon. Today we had a preliminary operations readiness review, which went well. The homework is mostly associated with parts of the setup, which were simply not ready by the time the reviewers came.
Once we have clearance from the ORC, I think we will set up daily zoom meetings, starting our usual 9am NY time on Thursday.
Best regards,
Alexander.
