That would be a nice solution. Thank you David!

The fancy site home page isn’t too bad to edit so long as we’re not trying to change the template. I had to do some forced changes to the template previously when we wanted the top links around the spinning particle to go to other pages and not jump down to a lower section of information like the goals and about links do. The original 4 sections are still in the back end but I had to hide them so we didn’t have empty sections on the page.
I’ll reach out to our web vendor to see what it would take to make the entire theme editor friendly. I looked at the internal pages and they are already editor friendly so it’s really just getting the home page adjusted. If the cost is minimal the communications dept. would absorb it.

I will let David chime in on that question. It is editable (as David already showed0 and for small change (i.e. adding or changing a link) I don’t think it is too hard, but it definitely isn’t as easy as a simple page.
David, how bad would it be it we tried that “fancy” page as a landing page for now with some help from you? Or should we just drop it and go to something simple.

I appreciate the appearance of the fancy page, but I think it the long term it would be to our advantage to make sure all webpages can be edited internally. It sounds like that may not be fully possible with this one?

I’m good with making the EIC page the “starting point” for all things EIC related. https://www.jlab.org/eic was built to be more of a marketing site initially and not something that was easily editable. As time has gone by this has changed. Let me reach out and see what it would take to groom the site to be a more non-technical editor friendly page. At a minimum maybe make the subpages more friendly. I don’t mind helping with home page edits when they come around if needed.
I’ll go through and get the EIC at Jlab page set up and links adjusted so we have a starting point for that. For the footer menu items – do we leave “Electron-Ion Collider” in the “for the public” section and change the two related links in the “for researchers” section to a single link?

Yes, I think having a single EIC landing page with links to the more detailed pages is the way to go.
Right now at the bottom of the www.jlab.org<http://www.jlab.org> page we have three EIC related links. One link to a landing page (with some nice pictures, links to the more detailed pages, etc.) would be great.
I know we worked towards this before the open house and improved many pages. This one kind of turned into a landing page https://www.jlab.org/eic and looks kind of cool (though I know it isn’t fun to code).

Hi all, Doug is in charge of a separate but related effort. We are EIC project, he is EIC science. I think we might consider having one landing page for EIC that the JLab webpage links to, and from there provide links to project, science, user groups (a third effort that will require webpages), whatever else. Doug, what do you think?

Great, I can help walk you through the new page creation if you need. I can also do a refresher training with you if you haven’t had to do any web updates in a while. Once the new page is ready I can then put in the redirects for the old links. I’m in office tomorrow and can come to you if you like.

All,
I’ve had different EIC requests come in recently. Asking for web page changes, additions, etc. I believe Doug is the main POC for our EIC and EIC Center web pages https://www.jlab.org/eic & https://www.jlab.org/eiccenter and I’m not sure if these are associated or not. With different requests coming in from different people I thought it may be a good time to put everyone on one email.
While some of the requests are things only I can change I just want to make sure no efforts are being duplicated and if possible have a single point of contact who could go through the web editor training with me and then be able to maintain these EIC pages going forward.
Overview:
Jen reached out about changing the footer link text and archiving a page a redirecting it to a new page.
Christine reached out about a new EIC at Jlab page with links to other pages and resources.
I am happy to go forward and make all these updates but I think having a content editor on your end would be beneficial. Should I just move forward with these changes and you can have someone reach out to me for a web editor training for future updates or should we designate an editor and schedule the training then this editor can make the new pages and updates?
