A message from Katherine Wilson, EIC Deputy Associate Project Manager (Interim)
[cid:image014.jpg at 01DAB7EE.6CDC7E60]The EIC project has many stakeholders who contribute to its success in ways ranging from scientific expertise to financial support. Besides the ongoing funding from the Department of Energy, the EIC has interest from a number of potential in-kind contributors, other organizations who contribute material or services to the project.

One of these recently received significant funding to support the EIC. BNL issued a news release to announce this progress: "The UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), through the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Infrastructure Fund, has announced its commitment to support UK personnel involved in research, development, and major equipment contributions towards the successful completion and subsequent research program of the EIC. The contribution from DSIT is one of the first from DOE's international partners and will help to develop the new detector and infrastructure for the EIC. Spanning a period of seven years, the financial support from the DSIT will support a consortium of UK laboratories and universities to partner with the EIC collaboration." This contribution of over $70M is expected to help support the detector and cryomodule scope managed by Jefferson Lab.

EIC at JLab Admin News

[cid:image018.jpg at 01DAB7EE.6CDC7E60]As part of the Department of Energy's commitment to sustainability, the National Labs look for opportunities to reuse and recycle - even high-tech components. The Electron-Ion Collider - a partnership of Jefferson Lab and Brookhaven National Lab - will reuse around 700 magnets no longer needed in the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Lab - thus saving taxpayers about $10 Million in magnet costs. The magnets are being sent from Argonne to JLab and BNL, where they will be disassembled and refurbished before being installed in the EIC located at BNL. Pieces of the magnet support structures (or "girders") which are no longer needed are being repurposed into artwork to show that "Virginia is for SCIENCE Lovers"!
