A message from Katherine Wilson, EIC Deputy Project Manager (Interim)
[4CC6B9D5]The EIC project held a CD-3B Independent Project Review in January. Project status was presented to the review committee along with the request approval for a number of long-lead procurements. Responses to charge questions were generally positive, and the review committee recommended proceeding with CD-3B approval. Reviewers made a number of helpful recommendations, highlighting areas for improvement or development, while supporting the overall project goals of implementing subprojects, moving the RCS out of the tunnel, and approving the CD-3B scope.
With this guidance, we will continue to work towards technical maturity of the project as well as the implementation of subprojects to allow us to start baselining scope. With another DOE status review planned for this summer, it is important for us to continue to make progress to be able to show our readiness to baseline the first subproject in early 2026.
The first month of 2025 has already brought a number of changes, with more to come. But, as the saying goes, "Progress is impossible without change." Whatever uncertainty is going on around us, our goals for the project are clear: to continue to make progress on our planning, designs, procurements, and production. With the support of the EIC team, I am confident that 2025 will be a year of challenge, excitement, and success.

A message from Jim Fast
EIC at JLab team - it was a real pleasure working with all of you. The EIC project [14F6FCBC] made significant progress over the past two years. This was only possible through the hard work of the entire team. You accomplished a great deal despite some challenges from safety stand downs to navigating ePAS for the first time to extra scrutiny from the Site Office. New challenges lie ahead with the change in Administration and the flurry of Executive actions we have already seen as well as a change in lab M&O contractor coming this year.
The best course of action in turbulent times like these is to keep your head down, work hard and deliver - high quality products on time and on schedule. While I often felt like EIC as a whole did not feel like a team, I really feel like EIC at JLab is a very strong team. You are in great hands with Katherine and I am confident the lab will find an excellent replacement for me. Best wishes to you as a project and to each of you in your careers and personal lives.
- Jim

Did You Know? Spotlight on Street Names
The streets on campus are named after famous physicists. For example:
Lawrence Drive:
[cid:image013.jpg at 01DB788D.1F903D30]
Ernest Orlando Lawrence
(August 8, 1901 – August 27, 1958) was an American nuclear physicist and laureate of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1939 for his invention of the cyclotron. He is known for his work on uranium-isotope separation for the Manhattan Project, as well as for founding the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
Kelvin Drive:
[cid:image023.jpg at 01DB788D.1F903D30]
William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin
(26 June 1824 – 17 December 1907) was a British mathematician, mathematical physicist and engineer. Absolute temperatures are stated in units of kelvin in Lord Kelvin's honor. While the existence of a coldest possible temperature, absolute zero, was known before his work, Kelvin determined its correct value as approximately −273.15 degrees Celsius or −459.67 degrees Fahrenheit. The Joule–Thomson effect is also named in his honor.

Real ID Deadline May 7, 2025
[cid:image020.png at 01DB788A.25858950][Over 21 Virginia Driver's License, REAL ID Compliant, Veteran Indicator]A REAL ID is an optional, upgraded version of your driver’s license or ID card that has a star in the right corner.
Beginning May 7, 2025, the federal government will require you to present a REAL ID compliant driver's license or ID card, or another federally approved form of ID, in order to board a domestic flight or enter a secure federal facility or military base (some military bases may already require REAL ID or a federally approved form of ID*).
Since REAL ID is optional in Virginia, you may not need one if you already have another federally accepted form of ID, like a valid U.S. passport or military ID, or don’t travel by plane. However, if you do want one, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

Required - Property Validation - Deadline April 3rd
The property validation period is now open through Thursday, April 3. Lab employees are responsible for verifying the barcode/tag number, serial number and the location of their DOE-issued property as shown in the lab’s records.
The Property Management team will audit this information by performing an inventory via in-person checks, locating the property on the lab’s internal network, checking calibration records, and receiving photos of equipment that has been loaned to outside organizations.
