A message from Jim Fast, EIC Project Manager

[cid:image002.jpg at 01DA2F3E.DD3D4970]The project had a very successful OPA review in November.  The committee fully endorsed the CD-3A plans and recommended proceeding to ESAAB, the Energy Systems Acquisition Advisory Board.  The Federal ProJet Director (Robert Caradona from the Brookhaven Site Office) will present to ESAAB. The formal approval for CD-3A will be signed either at ESAAB or shortly after.  The ESAAB review is scheduled for the second week in February.

As you are aware, we continue to be operating under a continuing resolution.  As I have reported previously, we have ample funding in hand for the planned work for the full fiscal year 2024 period so no worries.  DOE continues to supply additional incremental funding with each continuing resolution despite us having ample funds in hand already. We have some concerns about a specific flavor of funds, Other Project Costs (OPC) where we do not anticipate significant additional funding.  This is funding R&D efforts.  We have been in touch with relevant parties and are working to transition some planned future R&D activities to PED funded engineering development articles which will resolve this problem at JLab.

As you have seen, we are planning an EIC all-hands meeting for the afternoon of January 4.  In addition to providing some information about the project, this will be an opportunity for people to mingle across WBS elements and the newer staff to meet people outside their smaller working groups.  And most importantly, my wife and I will be baking cookies and perhaps other treats which you do not want to miss!
