[Eicpp_personnel] [EXTERNAL] EIC Project Team Update

Dear EIC Project Team,

Last week was a particularly busy.  I am providing the SharePoint links to the closeout slides from the Long Lead Procurement Cost Review, the Superconducting Magnets Schedule Review, and the Storage Ring Cooler Review.  These internal reviews are incredibly valuable and the comments and recommendations consistently helpful.  Thank you to everyone for supporting the reviews.  There was also a meeting of the EIC Advisory Board (EAB).  I will provide an update on the EAB at a later date - all good.

We remain committed to our goal of CD-3A, Long Lead Procurement Approval in January 2024.  Key steps to CD-3A approval include:


  *   Determine the scope of the CD-3A package this month;
  *   Start EVMS tracking August 1;
  *   Complete design assessments in August;
  *   Preview our CD-3A messages with DOE in September;
  *   Complete a Director's Review in October; and,
  *   Complete a DOE Independent Project Review in November.

There are many additional activities but we should all recognize that our focus on preparing CD-3A is exactly what is needed to prepare the project for implementation.  The increase in hiring, partnering, and collaboration is enabling our rapid progress on the design and preparation of procurements.

There will be uncertainty in the annual funding profile until we achieve CD-2, Performance Baseline Approval.  This is typical for a project at this initial stage.  We must focus on our near term goals and support the DOE in their efforts to secure the funding needed to implement the project cost effectively.  The best we can do is to make the maximum technical progress with the funding available.
