FYI.
Anyone who is currently, or plans to be, a student's
mentor/host/sponsor/PI should read this memo and take the coursed linked
below.
To those who take it: please let me know when you have completed the course.
Henry
Dear Colleagues,
The Director's Safety Council along with various other divisions across
the Lab have partnered together to establish a seamless process when a
sponsor or host assumes responsibility for a student or user.To that
end, the sponsor/host will assure that each student is assigned a
“Mentor”- a knowledgeable person responsible for the student’s
day-to-day work..
The Mentor will:
·Be familiar with the work the student will be performing, along with
the associated hazards.
·Identify the skills/training needed by the student through the Job Task
Analysis.
·Assure work planning and control documents are developed as appropriate.
·Be physically present to oversee the student’s daily work scope/activities.
In keeping with the above mentioned criteria we have developed web-based
mentoring training. All mentors are required to take this short
web-based training course by October 2, 2013. The course covers a
mentor's responsibilities for safety and communication, as well as
suggestions on how to make the interaction worthwhile for both you and
your mentee. You can take the course (MGT202) at
http://www.jlab.org/div_dept/train/webbasedtraining.html).
Thank you again for volunteering your time,
