Outage: CUP Chiller Factory Field Engineer Performance Evaluation
Proposed By: Carroll W. Jones
Start Time: 07/29/2014 09:00
End Time: 07/30/2014 17:00

Description/Impacts:

CUP Chiller performance is being evaluated by the factory field engineer to verify the chiller can produce 800 tons. At some point, 800 tons of cooling load must be moved to the CUP Chiller. The cooling load currently being cooled by the Test Lab basement chillers (EEL Building, Test Lab North Addition, and Accelerator Chilled Water Loop) will be moved to the CUP Chiller in addition to the CEBAF Center F-Wing, the TLA, and the Test Lab Highbay. The Test Lab Cooling Tower condenser water supply temperature must also be raised up to 85 degrees F. During the actual full load test, the actual cooling load will be more than 800 tons so the chilled water supply temperature will rise above the normal 42 to 44 degrees F. Depending upon how long the full load test lasts, the temperature in some areas may drift up . Major impact to specific areas is not anticipated, but all areas will be monitored and steps taken (transfer part of the load back to the Test Lab basement chillers)
to minimize impacts to site operations. Areas more sensitive to chilled water supply temperature change such as the F-Wing Data Center will be notified when the full load test is to begin and when the chilled water plant is returned to normal operation.

For additional information or clarification, please contact Carroll W. Jones at 757-876-1778.
