Subject: [FFA_CEBAF_Collab] Inline ion getter pump for particle accelerators

Colleagues,

The local AVS chapter had a small vendor show at JLab Thursday. I picked up a copy of

https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.agilent.com/cs/library/casestudies/public/case-study-ion-pump-desy-5991-8733en-agilent.pdf__;!!P4SdNyxKAPE!Dd2cncBjZuryFs-Ondb-hHLne1V8I2sIVLwqkCmuav7rCmrKbZYmjmpxVHZT_u1s2s3EoGe57h0r4PNRGMwUcu7u0TQR$

It describes at 171 mm long ion getter pump which is installed inline rather than hung off a tee. 350 are installed at XFEL so it can't affect the beam. Scaling the drawing, the flange takes a 50.8 mm beam pipe, perhaps too small for our application. It seems likely that it could be scaled up, at significant expense, for use with 76.2 mm beam pipe (4.625" CF, 3" tube). Length could remain the same. Might the lattice accommodate 20 cm for such, including mating flanges?

Jay
