I suppose this is for the other beamlines (splitter etc.) not the FFA, which is likely to have very short drifts (103mm and 116mm in the current lattice).

Also what's wrong with connecting the pump to the side with a "T"?  Maybe that would take up too much lateral room in the spreaders/splitters.

For the FFA the drifts could be a small machined chamber that includes ports for diagnostics and to attach vacuum pumps e.g. to the side horizontally.  It would also mate to the specially shaped pipes that go through the FFA magnets (apertures are custom shape).

It describes at 171 mm long ion getter pump which is installed inline rather than hung off a tee.  350 are installed at XFEL so it can't affect the beam.  Scaling the drawing, the flange takes a 50.8 mm beam pipe, perhaps too small for our application.  It seems likely that it could be scaled up, at significant expense, for use with 76.2 mm beam pipe (4.625" CF, 3" tube).  Length could remain the same.   Might the lattice accommodate 20 cm for such, including mating flanges?
