[G12] 64 bit conversion

Mike and I continued debugging: we now understand much better the  
underlying problem.
However, there is real work to be done on the code, making sure C and  
Fortran are consistent with what is being passed between them:

This actually explains the weirdness we were saying, with different  
results at different places.

Mike is working on this as we speak, and I am sure we'll have more  
tomorrow.
