Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting October 16, 2012
1)	Mary Logue (Associate Director for EH&s) makes presentation on 
Safety during the long shutdown and injury performance during 
the past year.
a)	See link
b)	Re the shutdown, basically things are going well
c)	Re injury performance:
i)	Compares FY11 to FY12
ii)	FY12 injuries by body part
iii)	Important to report ALL injuries to health services
d)	Now what? Gives list of ideas and action items
2)	Doug Higinbotham
a)	From the senior staff meeting:
i)	The starting budget this year will be lower than hoped 
(could go up).
ii)	Higher level of security continues
iii)	Performance appraisals are going well in Physics
iv)	Travel saga with MOU?s continues. Pending DOE approval, 
we?re back to what we?ve always done before.
v)	New publications policy is coming out. Nothing really new.
vi)	Software review is scheduled for October 29 (progress 
and timelines)
vii)	Results of a recent survey indicate that users would 
like more documentary support for software that we 
support. There?s pressure to improve the situation
viii)	Recent Hall C incident highlights the fact that 
all work done in any Hall must be cleared with the Hall 
Work Coordinator first. When that doesn?t happen the Work 
Coordinator is fully empowered to eject the offending 
individuals from the Hall.
ix)	Qweak data has been unblinded. Seminar at 11 on Friday 
(10/19)
3)	Robin Wines
a)	12 GeV:
i)	Møller: 4th quad has been measured. We?re making sure we 
understand those measurements. Then we?ll let Ed get it 
and install it.
b)	Gmp: swing arm should be ready by mid-November. Everything 
else is ready.
c)	DVCS: need shielding information
d)	A1n:
i)	Working on support structure for coils
ii)	Remodeling the cell
e)	SBS:
i)	Working on detector frame and supports, magnet supports, 
and magnet modifications
ii)	Whit and Jack are planning a trip to Brookhaven to get 
more information on the magnets
f)	SOLID: Whit is working on detector supports. Needs 
information on detector weights.
4)	Ed Folts:
a)	Closing loops on Møller
b)	Cryogenics
c)	Performance appraisals
d)	Compton: 
i)	plan to survey the laser table tomorrow
ii)	magnet mapping on hold till power supply is reconnected
iii)	Detector can work started
5)	Alexandre Camsonne
a)	Compton detector removed
b)	DVCS pmt?s were tested at Clermont-Ferrand
c)	Working on simulations
6)	Bert Manzlak reminds us that for any test setup anyplace at the 
Lab, you documentation describing what you are doing and risk 
assessment, and it must be approved by all the appropriate 
people (TOSP, OSP, HALIST, etc.)
7)	Kalyan Allada gives report on Transversity Experiment (E06-010)
