Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting July 30, 2013
1)	Thia Keppel
a)	From the senior staff meeting:
i)	Re planned vacation time, it looks like we?ve met our 
goal. Please stick to the plan.
ii)	Voluntary Separation: available this year just like 
last year. The deadline to apply is August 13. See 
https://misportal.jlab.org/mis/apps/hr/vsp/
iii)	Still need our three worst time sinks. They should be 
internally generated at the lab and actionable. Send 
suggestions to Thia.
iv)	Preliminary report on the Comparative Research Review 
is very good for JLab?s experimental program. In the 
medium energy subfield (44 groups) we got an 8.8 out of 10 
score and average was 5.7.  Theory did pretty well too.
v)	Safety incident last week, a student in Hall C received a 
High Voltage shock. The student is fine, but an 
investigation is underway.
vi)	Graham Heyes talked about DAQ developments. Items of 
note included:
(1)	Bob?s work with CODA
(2)	New logbook is coming (see 
https://logbooks.jlab.org/ )
(3)	GIT is coming (versioning for source code)
b)	Luke Meyers has accepted our offer of a post-doc. He starts 
in September. The search can now start for our 2nd post-doc.
c)	Counting House AC will be going away intermittently. 
Affected parties have been notified.
d)	Testlab is not available but will be soon
e)	Savannah River has agreed to fill our tritium targets and 
take responsibility for shipping them.
f)	Re the CLEO magnet, we?ve received a positive response from 
Richie Patterson at Cornell
g)	We bought some PREX targets
h)	Thia will be away for the next two weeks.
2)	Robin Wines
a)	Just got the spec for the rastering system tube coating and 
have a vendor in California
b)	SBS:
i)	We now officially own the steel
ii)	Working to get the steel shipped (6 trucks)
iii)	Coils: 
(1)	sketches done and sent out to confirm the price
(2)	on track to get the drawing package to procurement 
by early September
iv)	Continuing work on the counter-weight support system
v)	Included the GEp detector package in the layout
vi)	Trying to move Polarized 3He target to the new CAD 
system
3)	Jessie Butler
a)	Commissioning magnet temperature sensors
b)	Installing a new camera system in the Hall
c)	Move to the TEDF is on hold
d)	Thursday (8/1) planning to move the clean room tent to the 
laser lab
e)	Doing vacuum system work in the Hall
f)	2 workers getting certified as welders
4)	Charles Hightower
a)	Reminds all to keep an eye on their students. Don?t let them 
get into trouble.
5)	Jack Segal says we can move either HRS arm now, or both from 
same control.
6)	Joshua Hill gives talk on the status of the Compton Polarimeter 
Photon Detector DAQ Status.
