Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting January 22, 2013
1)	Thia Keppel
a)	Report from senior staff meeting:
i)	February 6th is the budget briefing with DOE for FY15-19
ii)	Promotion process is underway, Technical Review 
Committee meeting is scheduled
iii)	New from China, pre EIC is now funded
(1)	More from Jian-Ping Chen:
(a)	Mid to long range plan (20 years) for research 
facilities is out.
(b)	Nuclear/High Energy Physics are part of 2 out of 
16 projects
(c)	EIC would be part of the High Intensity 
Accelerator Facility (HIAF)
(d)	Gives some planned specifications
iv)	Hall D Solenoid is having a problem with coil 1 (leak). 
Investigation is underway.
v)	Laser lab will be ready for occupancy by end of March
vi)	2nd floor of the Counting House
(1)	Making it quieter (better air handling and dropped 
ceiling)
(2)	1 & 2 conference room options are available
b)	SBS: Had our 1st quarterly phone report this morning (1/22). 
Went smoothly.
2)	Robin Wines
a)	SBS:
i)	Beginning to design layout
ii)	Magnet simulations continue
iii)	Magnet support design underway
iv)	Planning an internal review
v)	Met with facilities re storage of SBS magnet and 
counterweight parts storage.
(1)	Outside space is available
(2)	Related note, facilities is doing a budgetary 
estimate for CLEO.
(a)	Coil storage a little problematic due to door size 
issues with some buildings.
(b)	It will fit in the testlab
(c)	It will fit in a planned new building (2014)
vi)	Floor plates being studied for SBS, but also 
considering other future developments in the Hall (SOLID, 
etc.)
b)	BigBite detector, working on the GRINCH mirror design
3)	Ed Folts
a)	Møller cabling the magnets. They should be powered by the 
end of the week. At that time we?ll declare the 12 GeV 
Upgrade work completed.
b)	Cryo work continues
c)	Raster will involve more than originally thought. Will now 
need some design work.
d)	Collimator installation on HRS?s:
i)	1st is installed
ii)	2nd is being installed
iii)	After installation completed will call in survey for 
alignment
e)	Entrance beam girder is in
f)	Introduces Chuck Long, new Hall A Technician.
4)	Steve Smith from EHS&Q makes presentation on Safety Culture
