Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting April 30, 2013
1)	Thia Keppel
a)	From the senior staff meeting
i)	As you may have observed it?s hard to get OPS REQ?s 
through. Money is tight
(1)	Expecting more funds today
(2)	Then more in May
(3)	OPS purchases are restrained
(4)	For large purchases can use ?no fund? option to 
facilitate clearance when the funds become available
ii)	PAC40:
(1)	Submission deadline is Monday May 6, 2013 at 08:00 
EDT (not a minute later!)
(2)	Proposals may be subject to independent technical 
reviews. Hall leaders will decide
iii)	The Lab is hiring a senior super-conducting magnet 
engineer
iv)	The laser lab will be completed in late May by present 
estimate.
v)	Counting House will be delayed by 3 weeks
vi)	Thanks for all input for the upcoming comparative 
review
(1)	The whole program will get 2 hours total
(2)	4 talks to be presented (Rolf, Patricia, Doug, and 
Roger)
vii)	12 GeV Lehman review is next week. There?s lots of 
preparation going on now.
viii)	Hall D solenoid is cooling. Got to 1380 Amps (want 
1500). Trying again today.
2)	Robin Wines
a)	12 GeV:
i)	Raster drawings are done and will be out for signatures 
this week
ii)	Work continues on Compton, beam line, and HRS 
detectors.
b)	GMp/DVCS:
i)	Submitted all but two REQ?s
ii)	Need some discussion of the scattering chamber setup
c)	SBS:
i)	Still waiting for Brookhaven to clear magnet materials for 
shipping.
(1)	Pieces have been moved to a separate area, but 
still waiting for clearance
(2)	Could be several more weeks
ii)	Continuing with counter weight, magnet support, floor 
plate, and coil designs
iii)	Power supply: waiting for confirmation on the cost 
estimate.
d)	Polarized 3He target:
i)	Al is working on it
ii)	Will be done in the CAD software
iii)	Concerned that the scope is changing.
(1)	Questions at the SBS meeting last week re details 
and how they affect background suggest increasing scope
e)	Heard from MIT re Møller. They assumed 70 degree LCW in 
their designs. We have 80 degree LCW. Need to iterate.
3)	Ed Folts
a)	working on OSP?s and assorted paperwork
b)	Installed upstream target chamber window
c)	Cryo-controls on hold waiting on software
d)	Working on cryo hardware installation
e)	Still short on shielding
f)	Fire loading: Ed?s part should be finished tomorrow (5/1). 
Robin adds she still need detector and target gas 
information
4)	Charles Hightower
a)	There will be a JSA internal electrical safety review 8-9 
May
i)	Expect it will mostly be an in-room setting, but they want 
to go to Hall A
5)	Ole Hansen announces that the computing group will be 
installing the firewall to the Counting House on May 6. After 
that you?ll have to go through the gateway using the token 
generator etc. to access the Counting House computers.
6)	Kalyan Allada gives an update on Compton Polarimeter DAQ 
development
