Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting November 12, 2013
1) Thia Keppel
a) From the senior staff meeting:
i) Appraisals:
(1) 30% are completed
(2) If you haven?t done it yet make an appointment to
meet with Thia through Stephanie
ii) JSA initiatives is about to announce a call for
proposals. Be advised the timeline will be very short. If
you anticipate submitting a proposal, get started.
iii) CHL2: Pump down, good news and bad news
(1) Got to 2K
(2) Couldn?t stabilize
iv) There?s beam in the injector (30 microAmps, 500 keV)
v) U-tube incident has resulted in the development of an OSP.
It?s being reviewed for Physics (Chris Keith)
vi) The ?Priorities PAC? is tentatively scheduled for mid-
May 2014
vii) Software review:
(1) Ole Hansen: External review in 2 weeks reviewing
software developments for 12 GeV
viii) Space:
(1) Testlab High Bay is set up (naturally there is
some flexibility)
(2) Physics Chalet is a work in progress
(3) Next in line are EEL 125 and TEDF High Bay
ix) Expect an inventory of electronics soon. Will focus on
pmt?s, calorimeter blocks, and electronics modules. It
isn?t clear how thorough. Want to assess what we have,
where it is, what can be shared, and what can be thrown
out.
x) Chris Cuevas reported on Electronics developments (long
impressive talk). Some topics:
(1) Beam Raster monitoring module is ready for testing
(2) New database being started (PEER) to track
electronics (service record, repairs, etc.)
(3) Lots of new stuff
b) SBS review:
i) John LeRose:
(1) Went well, we got at least an A
(2) Scintillator coordinate detector was well received
(3) Have a to do list
c) SOLID:
i) Jian-Ping Chen:
(1) Collaboration meeting last Friday and Saturday
(11/8-9)
(2) Have a complete design
(3) Document being reviewed before presenting to lab
management
(4) Have a cost
(5) Worked on long term plans and how to proceed
d) Hall A Collaboration meeting agenda is on the web
i) Expect to do a ?Safety Walkthrough? during the meeting
(new for 12 GeV).
2) Robin Wines
a) GMp:
i) Doing angular measurement work
ii) Need locations for floor plates
b) SBS:
i) Working on assembly hardware
ii) Working on support structure
iii) Received best and final offers on the magnet coils
c) APEX septum going into drawing system
d) PREX: Al Gavalya has given feedback on collimators
e) Continuing on Cherenkov detector designs
f) Attended Hall dump meeting:
i) We need to define what things can be done in January
ii) We also need to define what we need
g) Tritium vent system work continues
3) Ed Folts
a) Compton is finished for now (will revisit after the optics
are installed)
b) Picked up the raster beam tubes today (11/12)
c) Cryo is ready for clean up
d) Documenting what?s been changed or repaired
e) Making a beamline punch list
4) Charles Hightower
a) There will be a DOE inspection of machine shop equipment
during the 1st week of December. Will need to have documents
etc. in place.
