Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting: January 24, 2017
1. Thia Keppel
a. Senior Staff
i. Likely no Senior Staff meetings for next 3 weeks
ii. April 3, 2017 new Director to start
iii. February 14, 2017 Budget Briefing - asked for 3 scenarios:
iv. July S & T Review in planning
v. Halls B, C, and 12GeV ARR went well, no recommendations
1. Recognized ERR, lots of work & planning
vi. User Group Board of Director’s meeting
1. Discussion about user input to scheduling
2. Cafeteria question, all labs no longer allowed to add funds but not closing (just gossip).
vii. Government hiring freeze? Federal employees, but last time subcontractors & Office of
Science followed suit. Existing accepted offers stand, no word yet to change anything
viii. Multi-Factor Authentication – have to get by February 1st (pick up at help desk)
ix. Rik & Rolf went to Stony Brook, prep for National Academy study
1. Productive – Feb 1 & 2 1st organizational meeting
2. Committee dominated by Nuclear Physicist
3. Zein-Eddine, Haiyan Gao, Kawtar Hafidi are members
x. Kawtar is new ANL Division Director
b. Conference proceedings (Publications)
i. Users do not need JLab permission to submit a publication, but must notify lab when posted if
using JLab data
ii. JLab authors must go through JLab system before submitted, email Kim Kindrew when entered in
JLab system
2. Robin Wines
a. SBS
i. Continue on vertical support parts for shielded beam pipe
ii. Test plan for correctors
iii. Checked and revised lead shielding wall support
iv. Worked on BB detector frame
b. APEX
i. Test plan for septum magnet
ii. Supporting target work
c. PREX/CREX
i. Supporting target work
ii. Reviewing document to estimate design work requirements
d. 3He Target
i. Continue on magnet shield design
3. Jessie Butler
a. Spent majority of the week cleaning up the hall and performing maintenance on the Cryo system
b. The RQ1 sprung a small water leak which was repaired and the system is now back to normal
c. Began the prep work for removing the Moller polarimeter from the beam line and moving it to the
Test Lab
i. Scheduled to happen the week of January 23rd
d. Moved final piece of DVCS (lower stand) into storage @ ESB and started on prep of the Tritium
platform installation on the pivot
e. Must contact Radcon before moving any parts of DVCS from storage
f. Heavy equipment being moved in the hall, please be mindful of cranes, fork lifts, etc.
