Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting: October 31, 2017

1.  Thia Keppel
    a. Senior Staff
      i. Appraisal Process
        1. 150/162 self-assessments completed
          a. 11/21 calibration meeting
          b. ~11/12 grading must be submitted (completed/saved)
      ii. Tomorrow visit from Paul Dubben
        1. Undersecretary of Science nominee
        2. Not an official DOE visit! (was nuc sub officer
        3. Tour: Hall D, accelerator, computing, LCLS II
      iii. Accelerator: tomorrow cool CHL 2 (on schedule) injector start 11/4
        1. Prepping for 4 beams into Faraday Cup
        2. One CHL didn’t provide enough cooling for cavity testing
        3. Gradient numbers overall don’t look bad (~.4% low)
        4. C6 still off (CHL 1 has min needed for 4K)
      iv. EIC reminder to vote for change in charter (“international” representation)
        1. 12/1 detector meeting at Temple University
      v. Safety
        1. Incident at ANL, student walking to training putting info into cell phone tripped off curb & 
           sprained ankle (painted curb) – watch where you are walking

2. Robin Wines
   a. SBS
     i. Checking beamline support tower attachments
     ii. HCal platform in checking
     iii. Working on ECal frame drawings
   b. PREX2/CREX
     i. Continue working on beamline shielding support
     ii. Collimator and redesign of vacuum chambers
   c. Checking beamline magnetic shielding needs for Tritium
   d. Polarized 3He target
     i. Magnetic shielding box delivered
     ii. Continue on optics/laser design

3. Jessie Butler
   a. Crane work starts tomorrow
   b. Worked with Jack on installing new cabling for LHRS bogies
   c. Worked on dialing in lead flows and troubleshooting pressure sensors
   d. Checked heaters on top of magnet used for ice management
   e. Re-tapped holes and lubricated hinges on HCal assembly frame
   f. Installed the Tritium fence
   g. Completed a series of pointing surveys on R-HRS
   h. Assembled section of SBS shielded exit beamline
   i. Identified a few areas for improvement so the next step is to work with the designers and engineers to 
      see if we can implement the changes
     i. Unloaded 2 trucks of parts and equipment for the shielding hut for polarized 3He parts of SBS
   j. Rearranged some equipment around the Test Lab so there will be space to start assembling the HCal 
      subassemblies
   k. Waiting for a few lifting rings to come in but the plan is to start putting together the subassemblies 
      this week
   l. Supported the work of other groups working in the Hall to get things ready for Tritium run
