1. Thia Keppel
a. Senior Staff
i. Budget Issues
1. Funds received through 12/27, can go to 1/27….but, CR signed! Likely settled last minute again….no
need to worry
2. Got FY18 targets
3. Capital equipment ok, keep moving
4. Research is a problem, a “big hole”, will cut ~$10 – 20K from each group. Be cautious about travel
costs.
5. Expectations are President’s FY19 budget will be drastic but, guidance is not to worry…..House &
Senate unlikely to cut (~same as this year)
6. 2/23 Budget Briefing, no guidance yet
ii. Appraisal process
1. Stuart looking carefully, thinks lab grades may be overall too high
2. Physics similar to rest of lab
3. Physics only group complete
iii. Access during snow days (concern from COO office)
1. Too many people in….Thursday okay, Friday more (but accelerator start, RICH install, cryo N2
delivery….a lot going on)
a. If you heard rumors, don’t worry; it’s okay to be here if you need to work
iv. Beam back 5.5 pass to Hall D
1. Found some issues (quad mis-wired)
2. Beam at Hall D tagger dump last night
v. Undersecretary of Energy visiting Thursday
1. Going to Halls B & C
vi. 2/8 or 2/9 likely a 12 GeV dedication ceremony
vii. All-hands meeting coming in January
1. Might be during Hall C collaboration meeting
viii. UGBOD meeting tomorrow!
ix. 12 GeV close-out documents
1. Some remaining funds, to be used for accelerator reliability
2. Robin Wines
a. SBS
i. Working on ECal frame
1. Frame has been split into two sectors, front sector drawings to be complete in 2-3 weeks, while
analysis continues in parallel
2. Overall, complete in 6 weeks
b. Tritium
i. Beamline shielding design being analyzed, once techs confirm fit, then we detail drawings and have
fabricated
c. APEX
i. Detailing the Q1 magnetic shielding pieces
d. Polarized 3He target
i. Evaluating components to purchase this year
3. Jessie Butler
a. Spent most of the week checking over our systems and bringing them back on line after the shutdown
b. Brought the turbos out of stand-by mode and checked all vacuums
c. At the request of the Cryo Group, we did a thorough check of cryogenic system looking for signs of
increase demand (leaks or bad vacuum)
d. Changed bad batteries un UPS in the Counting House
e. Working on panels that will be used in the Counting House to mount new monitors and help organize the old
ones
f. Target chamber was surveyed to ensure no movement
g. Facilities Management came down to work on the AHU because it seems to be running louder than normal
4. Jack Segal
a. HRS-L rotation working. Will at first limit personnel approved to rotate.
b. Diagnosing quad trip
