Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting: October 16, 2018

1. Thia Keppel
   a) Appraisal time line…work on your appraisals!
     i. 11/26 Calibration Review A110, Hall A/C internal deadline will be ~ 1 week earlier
   b) Thursday lab agenda “offsite” discussions
   c) Friday Budget Review Board Meeting
     i. Worst case FY19 flat compared to FY18 (not so bad)
     ii. Continue along, maybe know final ~ December
     iii. Wait on some capital (FADCS,…)
   d) SLI funds seem unlikely for ESRII (issues @ DOE – NP)
     i. Need to find a new path, maybe start ~ FY19
   e) Out-year part of agenda may take a while to approve, still in progress
   f) Foreign Travel 30 days in advance!!
     i. Even if fully paid by host
     ii. Otherwise its personal leave
   g) 5 Projects approved for LDRD
     i. 4 Physics/Theory/IT correlated
     ii. 70-80% EIC
     iii. More advance computing
   h) Jan. 8 – Counting House sump pump (?) work
     i. Christmas – Test Lab High Bay Chiller (?) work
   i) Accelerator Review – Most recommendations were for CEBAF operations
     i. EIC as well, like design
     ii. Gradient loss, SRF
   j) EIC
     i. Polarization Meeting @ Temple University
     ii. Streaming Readout 12-3, 4 @ CNU
     iii. Spectroscopy @ ECT*
     iv. User Group 1/10, 4/4, July 22-26 Paris
     v. JLEIC moving 65->100 GeV up in energy
   k) P=0.83 fm from PRAD below muonic hydrogen, but error bar overlaps, bar will get smaller but will still 
       overlap
     i. The original electron scattering values no longer define the radius
     ii. Shouldn’t change control value much
   l) Today-Thursday Accelerator Advisory Committee Meeting
     i. Operations
     ii. Performance Plan
     iii. JLEIC
     iv. SRF, LCLSII
        a. To Director, agenda not public
   m) Lab Agenda – 15 milestones for Halls, plus 2 on tech transfer
     i. Draft should come our way
   n) *Computing Review*
     i. Need to come back to Rolf with any suggestions/name changes/etc…
     ii. Dry Run ~ 1st week of November
   o) More & More emphasis on users….
     i. Call for user statistics from DOE
     ii. ORC ID, now has ~1/2 page identifier you can use to link publications together
     iii. Other fields don’t have SPIRES
     iv. We’ll try, lab will get us the ID
     v. Amber will send something out to all

2. Robin Wines
   a. APEX
     i. Reviewing Apex extension box fabrication
     ii. Meeting with Alignment for Apex install
   b. PREX/CREX
     i. Continue on Prex concrete shielding, 
     ii. Modifying Prex plastic shielding, 
     iii. Testing Prex collimator assembly method, 
     iv. Ssieve holders need approval, 
     v. Continue on new GEn layout, 
     vi. Reviewing CDet assembly design

3. Jessie Butler
   a. We worked in the hall during an access to help with repairing exit beam line vacuum leak
   b. Worked on fitting PREX coils, 
   c. Worked on APEX extension box and continue working on SBS shielded beam line.
