Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting: October 9, 2018
1. Thia Keppel
a. Budget
i. FY18 Complete! Closed OK
ii. FY19 – buy critical stuff, needed things fine, NP up a bit ($684->$690M)
iii. Expect JLab flat as worst case
iv. Breakdown for Halls & groups not yet known, 10/19 Budget Review Board meeting coming up
v. Expected weeks in FY19 look good
vi. No idea yet about research, travel may go down
b. ESRII
i. Funds came in ` 2017
ii. Redirected to CHL2K
iii. June 18 3 days new funds here
iv. DOE took back, likely can’t start this year, makes planning difficult
c. University Subcontracts, new CFO found problem
i. SOTR for contractors usually, but universities don’t have this
ii. Why are joint/bridge/etc. different from regular users?
iii. Expect exception so that Tanya can be administrative SOTR
iv. Add technical point-of-contact (Rolf, Hall Leader,…)
v. A form to come our way!
d. Last summer had 208 students on site!
i. Not including SULI, REU
ii. 176 (85%) working with physics
iii. Mentors must have training have 33 staff with training currently
e. Foreign Travel
i. Request 30 days in advance!
ii. Even if fully paid by host institution
iii .Explain how you move within country
f. Performance Appraisal Cycle
i. Check FY18 Expectations now!
g. Get your Self Assessments done
h. Some Changes…
i. Core expectations: number defaults to 3
ii. Must justify if above or below
iii. Guidelines should be visible
i. Calibrations ~ Thanksgiving physics due 11/28, Halls due earlier!
2. Robin Wines
a. APEX
i. Working on Apex magnetic shielding drawing
b. PREX/CREX
i. Prex concrete shielding and shielding support,
ii. Sieves for both Apex and Prex, SoLID costs,
iii. Updating SBS shielded beamline assemblies and layout for new GEn experiment.
3. Jessie Butler
a. We had a hall access during the week in which we; move R-HRS to 28 degrees
b. Repair water leak in left dipole power supply and completed pre-beam checklist
c. We also worked on the GRINCH door seal
d. SBS exit beam line shielding
e. Un-stacked wire baskets in ESB and took delivery of ECAL frame
