Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting: February 24, 2020

1.      Thia Keppel

a.       Senior Staff

                                                              i.      Budgets

1.      Capital ok, research constrained (FY20), current plans continue

2.      Still plan to run in FY21 summer but may stop early

                                                            ii.      Colloquium tomorrow - should be interesting

                                                          iii.      Tomorrow 9am - noon - accelerator safety stand down; No work! (including in & out of Hall)

1.      Violation @ LERF, mistake (operator left building)

2.      Need NOTHING more keep safety a priority

                                                          iv.      We now need a NPUA with every university

1.      Will make their individuals exempt from making individual statements

2.      Non-proprietary User Agreement (NPUA)

3.      This is in addition to our usual foreign user requirements

4.      Easy form, different from MOU

                                                            v.      EIC meetings with BNL

1.      They're here at JLab this Friday, planning continues

                                                          vi.      Hall B "Task Forces"

1.      HLumi, DAQ, streaming, AI, ML -

2.      Make more - general - correlated with lab agenda items, co-chairs, some of us to join

2.      Robin Wines

a.       SBS

                                                              i.      Revised lead wall design

                                                            ii.      Working on cost estimate for BB GEM frame weldment

                                                          iii.      Completed analysis of weldment

                                                          iv.      Continue on ECal design

                                                            v.      Completed LCW analysis and drawings for initial modifications

                                                          vi.      Continue on LCW manifold analysis

                                                        vii.      Continue on GEN-RP detector assembly drawings

3.      Jessie Butler

a.       Worked on Moller risk management

b.      Continue working on fabricating parts for LCW upgrade and putting together hydraulic system for SBS magnet and counterweight assembly

c.       Continue to assemble and test new heaters

d.      Moved old Big Bite detector from TED high bay to ESB storage

e.       Recovered the hall from an ESR crash on Thursday afternoon and spent much of the day on Friday monitoring and retuning magnets

4.      Jack Segal

a.       SBS - BigBite Detector

                                                              i.      Installation of signal cables, Hall C techs assisting in spooling out 100 meter bundles and re-bundling with needed length for connection separated from main coil

                                                            ii.      Connection of Timing Hodoscope cables from detector patch panel an weldment

                                                          iii.      Preparation of Glasgow hodoscope for disassembly and repair:

1.      Fastening of paddle pairs with cable ties for support during unloading

2.      De-cabling bases

3.      Removal of honeycomb back board

                                                          iv.      Remaining glass blocks for pre-shower sent to vendor for cutting, delivered back this week

                                                            v.      Conduit tubing order placed, expecting delivery soon. These will be 10ft x 6 for ribbon cable protection, material is UL rated polypropylene and meets fire code

b.      SBS GEMs - UVA GEMS in EEL

                                                              i.      Number 5 GEM layer placed on top of cosmic stand using modified lifts (Hall C techs performed lift with UVA personnel)

                                                            ii.      Assistance with setup of gas delivery for 5th layer (Installation of additional flow meter, provided 1/4" poly tubing)

                                                          iii.      Ordered requested hardware for next GEM layer build number 6

5.      Run Coordinator - Scott Barcus

6.      Featured Speaker - Chandan Ghosh
