Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting: April 28, 2020

  1.  Thia Keppel
     *   Senior Staff
        *   Immigration Executive Order
           * Executive Order temporarily suspends (some?) immigration into the United States. Likely the work authorization/visa/green card status for people within the US is fine, but not clear. We are working to understand implications on the lab. People coming from outside will be on hold meanwhile.
           * This situation is not likely to change soon
        * Many groups working in preparation for restart:
           *   Occupancy of conference rooms
           * Signage around potential high-density work situations
           * Solutions for high-density work situations
           * Extended telework and allowable telework expenses
        * Mike Maier presented draft planning on restart of operations to Director’s Council, is now working on summary of this for all staff to appear hopefully later this week?
        *   Virtual onboarding:
           * Feedback from tax firm is that JSA can remotely employ individuals in Washington (JSA’s #1 critical hire) starting 5/18/20.
           * If the employee works in Arizona, JSA will need at least 30 days advance notice to register with the state for corporate income tax.
           *   Other states underway.
        *   September 22-24 MOLLER CD-1 review
        *   September 9-10 set for EIC CD-1 “mini review”, January 26-28, 2021actual CD-1
        * SLLP program cohort will shift to January – June 2021
        * LDRD Call – pre-proposal deadline 4/30! All new must submit.
           * Keep in mind - 1/3 reviewers are nuclear scientists
        *   Cryo Update
           * Central Helium Liquifier (CHL1) now operating normally
           * Heat exchanger 1 is still sick, the vacuum is still not as good as it should be, and LN2 usage remains high
           * Investigating a minor control issue with the ambient vaporizer supply valve which helps us manage plant capacity
           * The vaporizer is getting a little chilly
           * The vacuum spikes do not appear directly related to the HX1 issue and may indicate another gremlin
           * The consensus is that postponing the cleaning of HX1 to support post-COVID beam ops until we can schedule a new target for the SAD would not pose a notable increased risk to CHL1
        * Free scientific writing workshops may be offered
        * EIC OPC taks – at Jlab
           *   Yellow report
           *   Start on detector design
           * There is a near-final (final?) partnership agreement between JLab & BNL (Lead, co-lead on equipment,….)
  2.  Robin Wines
     *   SBS
        * developed a tower base support method for install and alignment with agreement from technical team
        * developed the connection and alignment of tower to tower extension with technical team, continue discussing installation method
        * LCW- completed hangers, continue on manifold support weldment, completed manifold drawings
        * GEn-RP assemblies out for bid, working on vendor questions
        *   reviewing SBS documents (Ed's)
        *   worked on ECal support
        * reviewing cryo disconnect for HRS-R
     *   MOLLER- reviewing installation estimates
     * SoLID - starting on cryo connections for coil test
  3.  Jessie Butler
     * Worked on SBS scheduling and continue reviewing drawings from design staff
     * Worked with MOLLER team on risk-activity mapping
     * Working through the procedure for disconnecting cryogens from HRS-R
     * Reviewing information on Hall A tech page
     * Team working on cross-training (cryo)
