[Hallb-engineering] [Hallb] Solenoid magnet

All,

Today we removed the last 4 transport fixtures by 10:00
The picture attached shows the upstream end plate, the heat shield with some MLI and then a Plate with ~2" hole that is part of the C5 bobbin and finally a 1" tapped hole that was used for bolting the transport supports. This is where the Z-supports will be installed see below.

One of the fiducial blocks (needed for surveying the cold mass) did not fit and the JLab machine shop tuned it up for us in <20 minutes
Survey was ready to roll and immediately started taking data.
After lunch we started to assemble the Z supports. Unfortunately the parts were difficult to install and did not fit well. Again the JLab machine shop is coming through for us with two guys working OT tonight to clean up the parts.

In general the survey data looks quite good. with 1mm of pitch and 3mm of yaw in the magnet at present.
In the morning we will do a few more survey measurements.

We will clean and preassemble the Z supports. After they cure we will install them and hopefully be pumping the insulating vacuum by Friday evening, to allow acceptance inspection leak testing.

Dave

PS,
The ESR tripped this morning at 03:00 and Denny and Todd recovered the Torus and Buffer Dewar systems completely. (one minor question ... good job guys!)

Hi All
By noon today the Solenoid was shimmed and bolted to its beamline cart.
By 17:00 the lower four transport lugs had been removed. Small changes in force readback vs the as welded values were observed but at this time don't seem to be of concern. We will know more when the upper 4 are removed in the morning. This will also allow the survey team to get the first set of data after transport.
If you look closely you will notice many dozen cables instrumentation attached
Dave
