[Hallb-engineering] [Hallb] Solenoid magnet

Another big day on the Solenoid.
Last night I had two machinists from the JLab shop work till 7pm fixing Z support parts for fit and function, and also cleaning up the load cell holders.
4 Z supports were completed and all the load cell holders, the final 4 Z supports machining was completed by 11;30 today.
Morgan and I had all the load cells and Z supports parts starting to cure in two "ovens" by 12:30 today.
Bob and the survey team finished taking data on the magnet and also aligned the nominal magnet axis to better than 0.5mm in Y, X pitch and yaw. This is plenty good to do all assembly to the SST (solenoid service tower) and we wont really know much more till we map the magnet...
This afternoon all MLI was cut to allow Z support installation. Unfortunately the RTV is not cured enough to install those supports tonight. The goal is for Denny and Ruben to install them starting at 10:00 Saturday. We went over detail installation plans.
The full insulating vacuum pumping system is ready to go but unfortunately ETI did not leave us enough tube to do all we wanted for highest quality leak tests, so we will do what we can.
Our electronics/controls and vacuum guys have set up a way for all to follow the pumpdown via the web hallbopi.jlab.org/
Click on solenoid and read CG8606. (it reads now but is only pumping on hoses and the gages not the magnet itself. By tomorrow night we may have the magnet pumping too.
We decided that system designed for the Z support and shield extension was unworkable so we will be installing 6 layers of MLI between the 80K shield opening at the Z supports and 12 layers of "80K" MLI outside of this. There will be about a 1" radial step to avoid line of site heating.
Have a nice holiday.
Dave

All,
Today we removed the last 4 transport fixtures by 10:00
The picture attached shows the upstream end plate, the heat shield with some MLI and then a Plate with ~2" hole that is part of the C5 bobbin and finally a 1" tapped hole that was used for bolting the transport supports. This is where the Z-supports will be installed see below.
One of the fiducial blocks (needed for surveying the cold mass) did not fit and the JLab machine shop tuned it up for us in <20 minutes
Survey was ready to roll and immediately started taking data.
After lunch we started to assemble the Z supports. Unfortunately the parts were difficult to install and did not fit well. Again the JLab machine shop is coming through for us with two guys working OT tonight to clean up the parts.
In general the survey data looks quite good. with 1mm of pitch and 3mm of yaw in the magnet at present.
In the morning we will do a few more survey measurements.
We will clean and preassemble the Z supports. After they cure we will install them and hopefully be pumping the insulating vacuum by Friday evening, to allow acceptance inspection leak testing.
Dave
PS,
The ESR tripped this morning at 03:00 and Denny and Todd recovered the Torus and Buffer Dewar systems completely. (one minor question ... good job guys!)

Hi All
By noon today the Solenoid was shimmed and bolted to its beamline cart.
By 17:00 the lower four transport lugs had been removed. Small changes in force readback vs the as welded values were observed but at this time don't seem to be of concern. We will know more when the upper 4 are removed in the morning. This will also allow the survey team to get the first set of data after transport.
If you look closely you will notice many dozen cables instrumentation attached
