Greetings Hall A/C community,

This email is to let you all know some recent news here at the lab...

The good news:

Hall C has submitted our 12 GeV Key Performance Parameter demonstration slides to the DOE and we are anxiously awaiting to hear the anticipated acceptance of same. Excellent work by all involved!

Experiment E12-14-012, "Measurement of the Spectral Function of 40Ar through the (e,e2p) reaction", simultaneously completed data taking in Hall A. The data will provide for publications and two doctoral theses, a successful run - again, kudos to all involved!

The bad news:

The Central Helium Liquifier has experienced a seizure of Cold Compressor 5 (CC5). While the investigation into the root cause is on-going, the end result appears to be similar to the event of Spring 2014 and may correspond to an extended down. The decision has been made to terminate 2K operations until the root cause has been determined and/or an extensive detailed evaluation of the risks of operating at 2K has been deemed acceptable by lab leadership. Per discussion with accelerator, this is expected to take a month at the very minimum and so we should not be looking to continue Hall A/C running for the foreseeable future. In short, all shifts cancelled and both Halls open.

We will alert you all of any changes to the above, and please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Thank you all for your very valuable participation in this highly successful Spring run - very best,
Thia and Steve
