Colleagues,
Attached is the updated version of the new proposal that I previously
sent to you. Thanks to Ben Gibson, Nue, and Pete for corrections. Listed
are the confirmed collaborators.
Regards,
Liguang

Subject: New experimental proposal to PAC45
Dear colleagues,
I am submitting a new proposal to utilize the rare opportunity of
having a tritium target available for the four currently approved Hall
A experiments. The target will be here in September just before beginning
the tritium group run and will remain in the target chamber for one year
as the administrative limit.
Our proposal is to obtain spectroscopy of the three-body Lambda_nn
resonance at the Lambda threshold region within few MeV range. By measuring
its binding (or excitation) energy and width, the Lambda-n interaction
strength can be investigated within the uncertainty limit of the
existing Lambda-p scattering data and the recently confirmed Charge
Symmetry Breaking. This will be for the first time (and may be the last
time) to obtain experimental information that is related to Ln interaction
which has NO DATA at all.
Attached is the current draft of this proposal. You receive this because
that you are one of our HKS collaborators. Although this experiment will
be run in Hall A if it is approved, it is still a part of our overall
hypernuclear physics program at JLab. Thus, I am still encouraging your
involvement. If it gets approved by PAC45, the potential execution time
may be late next spring, as the last tritium target experiment after
joining the tritium run group. I believe the physics case is compiling
and the main problem will be the beam time availability.
In the collaboration list, please do not be surprised that your name
was not there. It is not my intention to leave you out but simply not
sure who would like to be included on this proposal. If you would like
to be included, please reply me by May 15, 2017. If you are listed but
would like to withdraw, please let know also by that date. I truly and deeply
appreciate your support to the JLab hypernuclear physics program.
Sincerely,
Liguang
