Private:Hall D Staff Meeting, December 19, 2011
Present: Eugene Chudakov (chair), Hovanes Egiyan, Mark Ito, David
Lawrence, John Leckey, Lubomir Pentchev, Yi Qiang, Elton Smith, Sascha
Somov, Ivan Tolstukhin, Elliott Wolin, Glenn Young
Eugene, General Announcements
* situation with project pretty good, Hall D is at 97% schedule-wise
* costs are trending down, at 94% cost-wise
* areas with over-spending: solenoid, FDC, infrastructure
* An ETC will be submitted again
+ last year 2.7 M$
+ this year significant amount again
* additional ring of BCAL likely, not decided yet
* FADC-250 contract not yet awarded
Eugene for Tim, Engineering
* cladding for solenoid out for bid
* PR for pair spectrometer iron sent
* forward calorimeter platform has been reviewed
* LCW in Hall almost complete
* tagger: 3 of 4 slabs of steel annealed
* Giles Brown working on pair spectrometer power supply procurement
* vacuum chamber tagger procurement out
* trigger interface and signal distribution board procurement
imminent
* power will be out in the building until morning of Jan. 2
David
* with Elliott working on online documents
* simulation: working on random number seed issue
Hovanes
* JLab discriminator support for EPICS done, document in DocDB
* received one module of Struck scalers
* FADC scalers for epics, postponed while firmware settles down
* two network switches in EEL building 126, one works for sure
* 3 CPU's ordered for Beni arrived
+ wrong front panel configuration, USB and VGA ports missing,
Procurement in discussions with vendor
* asked IT to configure a Windows terminal server for controls
+ needed for PLC control and configuration
Sascha
* working with Ivan on SiPM timing tests
* prototype of electronics configuration database written with Dmitry
Romanov
* working with Vardan Gyurjyan on initialization of trigger and
electronics
+ working on document for this
* some functions for scalars from Flash ADC received, not implemented
yet
* beam-line: SOW's for tagger vacuum chamber, pair spectrometer
magnet iron[?] in preparation
* Ken Livingston is interested in the goniometer, has written
specification
* Chuck came up with drawings for pair spectrometer detector
prototype
+ all components in hand except for amplifier
Ivan
* finished measurements with 3x3 mm SiPM's, both 50 and 25 micron
versions
+ more detailed measurements than before
* at high rate with 50 micron version, see degradation of time
resolution after about 1 MHz
+ don't see it at small amplitude
* amplitude depends on rate, at 100 kHz start to see change
+ next step to investigate this
* timing resolution for array: no pre-amp yet, promised for beginning
of January
* want to repeat 1x1 mm SiPM measurements, 25 and 50 micron
* in January will have laser
Mark
* calibration database now installed on the ifarm
* PR for TOF construction contract submitted
* working on gathering information on TOF PMT purchase decision
* collecting ideas for start counter SiPM arrangement
* working on a new sim-recon release
* Eugene comments:
+ need more manpower on tracking, calorimeter reconstruction
+ visitors an option
+ Sascha mentions Dmitry of RAL
Elton
* specification for spare solenoid
+ out for signatures
* last week, readiness review for Santa Maria, SiPM testing
+ everything working (the night before)
+ three test stations
1. receiving area
2. PDE measurements
3. large dark box, test 32 units at a time
# relative pde, I-V curves
# sit on copper plate, liquid cooled
+ many comments and questions from folks at JLab
+ three reccomendations
1. qualify test set-up
# use measurements of 30 SipM's tested at JLab as
verification
2. production manager, can't start until Feb.
3. make sure to update documentation
+ report basically completed
* Santa Maria is building light guides
+ they have two machines
+ small machine takes a while
+ large machine not quite ready
+ for first article, use medium machine from architecture school
+ polishing: connections with telescope mirror polishing people,
get some speed-up in the hand polishing
Lubomir
* there were still three cells in second package
+ problem with 4th cell, hv, sparking from one wire
+ back in the package now, looks OK so far
+ some imperfections on wire itself
* continuing with cathodes, almost all ready for 2nd package
* on track: by end of Jan. 2nd package will be done
* next: emphasis on test of first package
+ still have need for more pre-amp cards
o Cody working on an automatic testing set-up
+ new ideas on how to ground pre-amps, original idea copper
tubing for cooling, discussions on-going
Yi
* LabView control for solenoid almost done
* working on automated log entries and analysis
* fast DAQ for solenoid: use new Ethernet USB server, then read out
signal from counting house over the network
Elliott
* online documents with Dave: 9 docs going
+ each one has "outside" reviewer
+ more coming
* CODA 3 due mid-Jan.
* new e-logs
+ manuals
+ procedures
+ [?]
* racks and power strips arrived from computer center
* met with network guys will install things in Hall after beneficial
occupancy granted
* controls
+ replacement for shunt decided on
+ quench detector: will handle 50% imbalance
+ Scot reports: almost done with cryo controls
+ PLC programming: Josh going to school
* Eugene: beneficial occupancy inspection this Wednesday
John
* went to Indiana last week
* learned how to actively replace bases
+ some tweaks to scheme to facilitate this
+ can be replaced in a few minutes
* one base died, under investigation
* another died, not clear when, also being investigated
* Italians installed another calorimeter on floor underneath tagger;
coordination needed going forward
* gain equalization underway now, method being developed
* future: tie into Hall B DAQ for tagger information
