Announcements, Eugene
* operations budget: if we need it, we need to order soon
+ 20 k$ for central calorimeter
+ Panda developed APD sensor, radiation hard
+ money for future Cerenkov
+ online money exists, not as much paid to visitors as
anticipated
+ Mark: TOF amplifiers a possibility
Engineering, Tim
* tagger:
+ magnet steel OK
+ winding slipped a bit
+ vacuum chamber in Oct.
* downstream platform, most pieces in
* cryo platform due end of August
* solenoid test planning underway
+ cold in January
+ cryo tank available by end of August
* electricity for panels mostly figured out, one dirty power panel
needs to be worked out
* electrical for solenoid being installed
* grounding for hall: bonding of metal parts starting
* electrical for tagger being planned/reviewed
* LCW in tagger hall: all components in, need to start welding
* power preparations for counting house:
+ about to put in receptacles in rack room
+ start moving racks soon[?]
* power supply for tagger: we have it
+ taken out of service from accelerator
+ spare being sent to vendor for re-work
* power supply for solenoid: almost ready to move into position,
waiting for fire pipe
* frames for BCAL installation being fabricated, due end of August,
rails to be put on platform on order now
FDC, Lubomir
* looking for two wire frames to finish 4th package, selecting from
candidates
+ two draw high current
o figured out problem: removed limiting resistors on sense
wires, problem on HV board itself, traces on back side of
board touching Rohacell, explains temperature, humidity
dependence of current draw
o no trips on these boards
+ ordered more G10 to build more wire planes
* 3rd package: got clips for grounding, 1st article only, waiting for
the rest
* working on labeling of pre-amps
* 1st package waiting for dis-assembly
+ 4th packages uses mounting fixture, need to finish it before
working on 1st
* after clips received, 3rd can be moved to EEL
+ decide to clean clips ourselves
* Eugene: when will blue crab be no longer needed: L: need to keep it
for fixing area
* want to order spacer rings for cluster counting helium chamber, 2
or 4 to prove the principle, 1 ring: 2 k$
Chamber Testing, Beni
* pretty close to getting read-out system for Linux ROCs working, one
crate works, two do not yet
* using old TI[?]
* working on gas system planning, question on the number of gases to
support
Calorimeters, Elton
* FCAL
+ platform will be here soon
+ IU sending students, to be here most of next year
+ C-W bases are now coming in at an OK rate, as fast as they can
be assembled
+ all PMTs tested
* BCAL
+ light guides main critical item
o promised by end month, 1st set
o waiting for part in milling machine, under warranty, lost
or wrong part
o machining should go fast
o three stations for polishing, should keep up with
machining
+ Tom and crew constructed a vent hood to keep end of light
guides clean while gluing underway
o should be ready when light guides arrive
+ students working on monitoring system
o took data over weekend
o stability better than 1% over the weekend
+ bias to LED is lower than what was expected, 4.5 to 6 V,
+ cross talk of order 1%
+ if light guides come in by end of month, start immediately,
glue them to BCAL
+ Eugene: can monitoring system be attached after light guides
are glued?
+ when to submit PR for machining of mechanical parts, within
next couple of weeks
Electronics, Eugene
* Fernando Barbosa preparing TDC procurement
* also will likely buy CAEN TDCs for TOF
Trigger, Sascha
* got 2 pre-production boards for TI[?]
* preparing DAQ set-up for Richard Jones
+ booting ROCs from flash, 4 GB, put all of CODA on it
+ need to mount external drive for the data
Controls, Hovanes
* PRs for small items submitted: portable NIM, serial comm supplies
* ordered portable VME crate
* Vanik working on application for motors, collimator
* had meeting with Elliott, Elton, Josh Ballard: Josh has sent PR for
parts for temperature monitoring for BCAL
* counting house: Mark Stevens, Mark[?], and Tom working on
purchasing parts for power distribution in rack room
* sent first draft of MOU with Yerevan to Glenn, needed to invite
visitors, new DOE rule
Solenoid, Elliott
* need input from Tom on some mechanical tasks to be added to
schedule
* formulating goals for a test plan
+ in the goals, 1500 A, maintenance at liquid nitrogen
temperatures
* will bring in tanks when going to helium temp. to speed up cool
down
+ in future, upgrades may or may not obviate need for tanks
* OSP: try to get that before October, there may be a review from
Physics
* Accelerator e-log prototype almost ready for demo
* FPGA programming tutorial will be held
* control racks close to finished for solenoid, in the ESB
Beamline, Sascha
* preparing active collimator: tungsten blocks to be procured,
communicating with Paul Eugenio
+ quotes from 3 companies from Richard
o one too low
+ wire EDM machining[?], part of quote
* contract RFP at UConn, waiting for proposal from them
* submitted PR for procurement of SiPMs for microscope, pair
spectrometer, start counter
* Dan Sober has studied fix array counter size
* ongoing discussion on position for fixed array
+ put on focal plane
+ decide on location, fix size
+ need to study PMT choice
* this week outline contract with CUA
* pair spectrometer: need to revise tile sizes, layout of sensors,
will get help from Fernando
+ need to finalize plate size, then order
* Ivan Tolstukhin coming August 1st: will work on SiPM testing,
timing measurements
* Arizona State very active
+ with Mike Dugger, discussed layout of vacuum box, placement of
triplet polarimeter, harp location
+ they have preliminary design, given to Slava Razmyslovich
+ need a MOU with ASU, probably a collaboration MOU, should be
related to 12 GeV
+ Ken Livingston was at meeting last time. They will install
polarimeter detector at Mainz
Goniometer, Eugene
* goniometer specs received from Ken
* question: fast shutdown signal when target not hit in the right
place required in Hall A, preference for a hardware system,
* Hall D: how to do this with so many degrees of freedom?
+ will mount several crystals on radiator wheel
+ need amorphous radiators as well
o may need another ladder for these
Pair Spectrometer, Sasha
* ordered PMTs for low granularity hodoscope
* contacted company for dividers
Offline, Mark, David
* data challenge meetings have started, bi-weekly
* ongoing work on tracking, calorimetery
* Geant4 Tutorial held last week
* Elton: what about extraneous showers in calorimeters?
+ David: some BCAL work has been paused pending new hit output
form
+ Mark: Will Levine has been making progress, but still more to
do
+ Mark: we could probably use a bi-weekly, automatic,
single-photon reconstruction job
