* Open House
+ training today
+ we will set-up inside Hall D
+ we could put something by staging building
o need sign alerting people to existence of the Hall D
venue
+ to be shown:
o BCAL, 3 modules
o FDC exhibit
o standard posters
o Mini-BCAL, signals on scope
o construction movie
o event display projected on the solenoid
* long shutdown: mandatory meetings
* last month spending rate slipped by 400 k$
+ procurements took a step down
+ small procurements: some need to be turned to PO by end of May
* summer students
+ Elton asked about projects at the last meeting
+ if activities from which they can be paid, need to be
identified (can be software)
+ need a supervisor
+ plan is to have some from Regina, UNCW
Installation, Tim
* tagger magnet back on track, machining, coil making in progress
+ half of coils wound
* cladding delayed a month
* solenoid platform, design in review by Facilities, PR out by next
week
* tagger installation gantry in design, PR by next month
* installing baffle supports now
* BCAL tooling has arrived
* CAD training in progress, new CAD system being introduced
* power supplies
+ for tagger: identified 3 possibilities
o need to send to vendor for magnet testing[?]
+ for pair spectrometer: spec'ed, try to get PR out soon
+ for quad in tagger building: ordered
+ for small dipole: getting one from Accelerator
* Solenoid
+ by end of this month, move power supply into position
+ start work on that
+ outline of this work done
+ by August, up and running
+ controls should be on a similar schedule
+ Mark Stevens and Elliott proposed quench protection system,
will be reviewed by Giles and others, similar to system used
for tests
+ start cool down end of November, if all pieces here on
schedule
o no schedule slip thus far
Counting House, Hovanes
* main part of UPS installed
+ remote distribution cabinet not there yet
+ will be installed separately, separate charge from Facilities
+ needs to be scheduled
* Giles working on power distribution inside counting house, layout
of panels
* then plan routing of cables to racks
+ question: use Facilities or hire our own technicians?
* then run fibers from telecom room to counting house, can be done in
July
BCAL Test, Elton
* we have the mini-BCAL in Hall B
* initially in a position perpendicular to beam
* troubles with chiller, now resolved
+ rheostat broke down, now working
* moved to 20 degrees to beam, some data taken, more to come
* most of data needed for dynamic range issues in hand
* need to make a decision on the operating point,
+ 1.2 V above breakdown seems about right
* then need to tune electronic gain
* at 23% of 5.5 GeV
* another read-out board will be built
* Wed. will be last open time in schedule
+ second board will be ready, will try to install
+ 8 hours of beam studies scheduled
+ will have higher energy in new position
Electronics, Fernando
* BCAL: all channels have been tested on new board
+ Chris was checking bias settings to match upstream
configuration
* first-article discriminators have come in, Ben has checked one of
them
* should get first-articles of flash-250's this week
* sent equipment to UMass for testing set-up
* prototype flash-125's here, Cody loaded firmware
+ one sent to Gerard, he likes it so far
* prototype for f1-TDC V2 has arrived, high resolution version
+ Ed Jastrembski working on firmware, first level of testing
this week
+ then send out V3 for assembly
* pair spectrometer delayed by two months
* got first set of SiPM's in for start counter
+ design 95% complete
+ send files around sometime tomorrow
+ thermisters included in design
+ very confined space, between target vacuum chamber and CDC
+ need uniform air flow, from upstream of the target to
downstream
* receiving lots of cables, need to move stuff out of data center,
some shuffling of stuff
* final cable labels, due April 30
FDC, Lubomir
* 4 cells with new o-ring arrangement, oxygen very low
* did 4 cells at a time
+ testing done, channels look good
* easier to set high voltage on last three
* first one had issues with HV, tripping over weekend
* with oxygen lower less stable, may need another gas to stabilize
* plan to continue testing first cell
* turn it upside down[?]
* if things OK by end of week, two more cells
* in two weeks, package will be ready
* next: install grounding, material being ordered
* high-voltage wiring can be done without the grounding
FDC Testing, Beni
* noise helped by grounding, now 5 V rather than 13 V for control
voltage
* 2 mV peak-to-peak seen on scope for cathode strips
* added aluminum foil strips, all around periphery of chambers
* no progress on gas system
* efficiency plots look better in low-noise regime
* CMU folks found CDC connection wires slightly magnetic, not a lot
of force
FCAL, Elton
* working on production issues with CW bases, multi-prong approach
* issues with coating, corners of capacitors sometimes do not get
covered
Other Detectors, Mark
* FSU proposal for TOF constrcution has been reviewed, report sent to
Procurement
* UMass proposal for electronics testing has been reviewed as well,
report sent to Procurement
