Eugene, Announcements
* enhanced security situation persists, not known for how long
* Lab got a budget based on a continuing resolution
+ both 12 GeV and operations
+ we are encouraged to go ahead with procurements
* MOUs and visitors
+ Physics decided no DOE approval
+ 12 GeV will require MOU with the institution of visitors
* DOE is scrutinizing travel
+ limit on DOE spending per conference, across all DOE labs
+ if for a big conference, submit request well in advance,
especially foreign travel
* ETC: estimate of funds still needed to finish, every year a big
change request
+ need to work on this now
+ cap at 1,2 $M of increase this year, 2 M$ last year
* PAC report came out
+ we reviewing the report on the rare eta decay proposals
+ comments mainly on time-line and budget
* Hall D approached by people from Panda/Juelich
+ Elton will give a talk at their collaboration meeting
+ perhaps a source of new collaborators
+ rare eta decay interest
+ Panda struggling with where to get lead tungstate crystals
Bert, Safety
1. last week we were briefed by Mary Logue on first part of thr LSD
+ report all work related illnesses or injuries, even first aid
+ phone call to Medical Services is OK
2. work control documents
+ for work in experimental halls, EEL, Test Lab. storage
buildings: work control document should be posted
3. students need to get training and guidance
+ they should understand concerns and mitigation techniques
4. if working in the Hall, check in with Tom Carstens, the work
coordinator
+ Tom has daily work plan
+ let him know so he can plan
5. reminder: in experimental halls, you need to be trained on work
governance, SAF116kd
+ good for all halls during shutdown
Tim, Engineering
* lately, a big push on solenoid
+ good progress over last 2 weeks
+ items: cryo-can, power, cabling, more to go
+ started making connections from can to chimneys
* gantry has been awarded, due Dec. 16
+ if magnet delivered before then, might have to store in Hall,
or ask them to hold it
* vacuum chamber for tagger: end of Nov.
Lubomir, FDC
* Anatoly Sitnikov and Dave Butler are working at Blue Crab still
+ Anatoly is refurbishing old frames
+ Dave working on wire deadening
* package 1 is ready, waiting for gas
* soon will have parts for package 4
* corrosion tests are going slowly
+ another sample failed over weekend
* good results from EEL 126 and Beni Zihlmann on package 3
+ 3 cells done, all cathodes, fixes done by Vlad
+ continuing with 4th cell
* room 126 EEL hot and humid
+ solutions being discussed
+ Facilities request to be made requesting a proposal from them
+ several solutions on the table
+ will remove package 3 as soon as testing done
Eugene, Calorimeter
* all procurements for electronics are out
+ one was returned
* PR for mechanical parts have not been written
David
* working on raw data format with Elliott
* working on simulation for charged pion polarizability
+ exploring use of vertex constraint
* working on system for converting HDDM to ROOT format
Yi
* PXI system progressing
* SiPMs: Ivan testing rest of SiPM samples
* installing A/C system in dark box in EEL: 12,000 BTU
* working on proposal for DOE program
+ Marcel from Argonne will contribute micro-channel plate
+ Sergey Kuleshov interested
+ ASU looking into a domestic vendor for aerogel
Ivan
* SiPM testing: finished 80 samples for mini-BCAL
* received SiPMs from USM, 6 had not been tested
* sorting and arranging into wedges will be done by John McKisson
+ will have a procedure to replace damaged one with one with
correct gain
Elliott
* raw data
+ one event per block
+ block mode reading has to be written,
+ compressed mode to be written, about factor of 2
+ runs at 5 Hz
+ uses translation table
* funny things in tagger simulation
* Dan gave overview of FCAL control system
+ negotiating on final requirements
* EPICS archiver: Accelerator not interested in doing CSS conversion
* solenoid cool-down commissioning review set for Nov. 6
Dan
* working on firmware for bases and power chassis
+ can talk on CAN bus now
Simon
* continue to work on alignment with straight line fitting
* reconstructing track segment from EEL package, wires only for now
* putting in fix to CDC geometry
+ inconsistency between MC and what was built
* Bill Crahen gave dimensions for survey targets, going into
simulation
* looking at e^+e^− pairs for rare eta decay
Sascha
* Dan Sober and Richard Jones are finalizing fixed array
+ produced trajectories for Dan, previously he used a uniform
field
* contract preparation for CUA almost done, collecting signatures for
SOW
* microscope construction constract: all documents received from
Richard
+ need proposal review
* pair spectrometer of mounting plate
+ submitted drawings to Fernando, he will design mounting plate
+ ordered everything
