Private:Hall D Staff Meeting, August 12, 2013
Eugene
* Rebaselining
+ On Saturday, meeting at DOE HQ, a mini-review
+ approved, kind of
+ there may be some extra homework required
o mainly other Halls' magnets
+ some kind of report may be needed as well
+ implies some extra work, but not much, for project plan
o start with current schedule, subtract what we have
claimed
o in Sep., look at entries in CostPoint and take those into
account
+ will try to get rid of "H" codes, activities that can only be
marked as 0% or 50% or 100% done
+ Eugene will send a progress report today or tomorrow. We will
still have to submit the normal end of month report as well.
* Magnet
+ we need to understand the field map
o specific area that shows 5%-ish discrepancy between
calculation and map, near coil #2 and end-plate
o other areas agree to 1% of 1%
o expected 90 degree phi symmetry of magnet due to
chimneys, see no such symmetry
+ some things need to be repaired
o flow controller caused trips, needs fixing
+ long-term evaluation of some items
o re-evaluate the temperature margins
o T-dependence more rapid that that expected for this type
of cable
o plan to test sort sample, need to use Dutch lab to do
work
o need to work on the refrigerator
+ items from the test
o there was a quench at 300 A, 8 K, during bottom filling
o during ramp down before thunderstorm, big transient due
to rapid ramp rate, tripped
o short comes and goes, caused trips
Beni
* looking at having a single version of the firmware for FDC and CDC
* Sascha reports that there are different versions for different
detectors for the F250 firmware
* Ed J. is working on a full crate test of the F125s
David
* working on analysis from magnet mapping, discussion is on-going
* online data challenge
+ scheduled for Aug. 26
+ re-factoring low-level digitization code to facilitate
translation from geographical addresses to logical addresses
+ data will go into the ET, will be processed by level 3 trigger
and monitoring processes on distributed nodes, then transfer
to tape library
* monitors are installed in counting house, should be powered by the
end of the day
* working on finalizing F125 data format
* attended meeting on workflow tools and data provenance
+ Chip called meeting, develop system for managing large-scale
processing tasks
+ David and Mark will be on initial committee
Sergey
* inventory database working well
* need to merge Hall D database and private version
* not all electronic labeled, labeling needed before insertion into
database
Simon
* working on track finding
+ segment matching
+ matching between FDC and CDC
+ hit selection improvements implemented
* working on some FOM issues for the level 3 trigger
Mark D.
* Getting oriented: reviewing CODA, EVIO, discussing topics with
other staff
Sascha
* Working on TOF trigger algorithm for level 1
* Looking further at FADC scalers
* Reviewing specification for BCAL trigger, with a separate threshold
for each module
* Eugene: FCAL and BCAL triggers will be needed soon. Sascha: BCAL
easy, FCAL work required
* UConn waiting on ferrules for microscope
* diamond radiator has been added to UConn contract
* working with Roman on server-client system for trigger debugging;
allows boards to be read-out without DAQ
* course-grained pair spectrometers assembled by UNCW students, 18
done and tested
* fine-grained pair spectrometers construction continues, 86 1 mm
tiles done 180 2 mm tiles, all done in 1.5 weeks
+ Anatoly moved from Blue Crab to ESB to TEDF, but will be
kicked out by Hall B personnel
Lubomir
* Blue Crab hectic getting ready for move
+ material being moved to a variety of places
* last week connecting 1/4 of FDC
+ very dense, especially around the first package
+ additional rails used for mesh that were not originally
anticipated, causes access difficulties
* on Wed. will move FDC to EEL 126
+ some cables stuck to rails during practice detector insertion;
5 HV cables came loose
* In EEL 126, 2 scintillator paddles from test area will be used for
trigger
Elton
* BCAL
+ modules: gluing finished
+ cradle on upstream platform
o 1/2 stacked, will be done this week
o will be surveyed this week
o then re-shimmed
+ magnet vacuum leaks will have to be fixed before insertion
+ still some modules in ESB, target group wants the space, spare
module will remain there for testing
o Tara working on new pulser system
* Indiana and Regina contracts end this month
* Zisis working on technical papers, on on monitoring system, the
other on MPPC characterization work at Regina
* Expecting visitor from Santa Maria. Need place for him to sit
* FCAL helium poisoning check done, no problem seen
* waiting for parts from IU for floor of dark box
Yi
* solenoid testing
+ high-speed data being analyzed
o there was a black-out issue when there were fast
transitions
o these triggered the quench detector
* goniometer
+ plan to move to FEL soon
+ new student working on it: Ziheng Chen
* will be going to Argonne to look at microchannel plate detector
development effort, will give seminar as well, dry run next week
Fernando
* new CAEN modules: all modules need to be logged
* full-crate tests: TDC and Flash-125 are still to be done in F112
+ some VXS crates will need to be recalled
* cabling bundling and labeling is done; in ESB ready for
installation
+ students have left
* 9 crates in counting house will go to Hall soon
* power to racks in Hall by the end of this month, then can turn on
FCAL and BCAL
* need to organize cabling crews
* assembly being done at UConn on microscope electronics (without
SiPMs)
* BCAL readout boards nearly done (2 or 3 more to go)
* start counter SiPMs will soldered in this week, boards hopefully
done by end of month
+ Nick will go to FIU to get them started with read-out
* pair spectrometer read-out electronics will be done by mid-Sep.
Nerses
* nearly finished with driver for HV and LV
+ putting them into the final application
* problem with driver for communication with Weiner crates, Hovanes
has a solution
* Vanik almost done with GUIs
+ able to enable and disable individual channels
* working with Beni to evaluate needed functionality
Patrizia
* P: when is the party? E: Wed. at 3 pm
