ENP Issues, Patrizia

      * Hall D tagger magnet mapping review tomorrow

Software Review, Mark

      * Committee:
           + Torre Wenaus (BNL/ATLAS) - Committee Chair
           + Elizabeth Sexton (FNAL/CMS)
           + Sergei Gerassimov (CERN)
           + Martin Purschke (BNL/PHENIX)
           + David Nathan Brown (LBL/BaBar)
      * talks:
           + Curtis, overview
           + Mark, computing plan, data challenges
           + David, improvements in reconstruction
           + Justin, analysis workshop: event generators, analysis tools,
             event classification (BDT), amplitude analysis with AmpTools
      * written material:
           + GlueX Computing document, updated from last time
           + Appendices:
                o data management plan, Lab and Hall D
                o draft analysis plan
                o workflow system requirements
      * Committee report summary:
           + cited excellent progress for all Halls during the past 18
             months and thought we are on track for data taking
           + For the 12 GeV program as a whole
                o they noted the use of parallel processing schemes,
                o encouraged more use of static and dynamic code profiling.
                o They asked that we consider doing code review for crucial
                  new developments.
                o They also liked that software workshops that have been
                  held, noting that recording of the sessions is valuable
                  for reaching a larger audience.
           + For Hall D
                o they noted the data challenges we have performed,
                o the fact that the data from DC I was used to support the
                  PAC 40 proposal.
                o They also mentioned the inclusion of QA and data
                  challenge management in our software manpower plan
                o applauded the appointment of a Calibration Coordinator.
           + Report:
                o An interim report will be made available to Lab
                  management soon
                o the Committee hopes to issue its final report before the
                  end of the year.
      * Personal Comments:
           + we were the only data challenges
           + probably the most comprehensive written material
           + no push back on using JLab-specific tools for JLab farm
             workflow
           + suggestions on tools: no SRM for data transfer, no LFC file
             catalog
           + updating tools: can get up-to-date advice, take advantages of
             recent developments
           + lot of time spent talking about computer center issues
           + overall, easy on us

Engineering, Tim

      * all racks installed in the Hall
      * all cable trays save one installed
      * N2 system tested and working
      * chilled water system tested and working
      * dry air system for the CDC designed, some parts in, installation
        start this week
      * TOF, hope to get frame in next week so we can start assembly
      * mapping for tagger magnet can start soon after tomorrows review
      * FDC racks, wires pulled, not live yet
      * electricians moving to BCAL north tomorrow
      * dirty power: some left to do

CDC installation, Lubomir

      * before Thanksgiving, mesh installed, bearings adjusted
      * several LV cables installed on detector side by Vlad
      * need to disconnect some of these cables from the mesh
           + cannot easily pull on the system, push is ok
           + want to find what the problem is
      * cooling system read to hook up, need that before powering detector
      * for the CDC: FEL person testing HV, connecting boards

Calorimeters, Elton

      * monitoring system installation continues
           + boards Alam built: box just ordered
      * on FCAL installed except for patch panels
           + all cable connections ordered
      * the VME crate for controls installed soon
      * FCAL will be closed any day now
           + needs fire safety review before HV applied
           + will have stand-alone fire suppression system

Beamline, Sascha

      * tagger microscope construction
           + 1st bundle fabricates, will be tested
           + working on fibers for the next bundle
           + can go at 2 bundles per week
           + pre-amp boards: isolated soldering problems being worked on

Pair Spectrometer, Ivan

      * received all parts
      * can now assemble whole detector, starting this week
      * Chris finished one arm, measured all 28 channels with laser in dark
        box
           + gain (except for one channel) within about 1% of each other
      * this week, second arm of electronics will be ready
           + will test next week
      * need two weeks to stack tiles, waiting for hardware screws, pins
           + Chuck ordered them last Friday
      * p. e. peaks look good, results on wiki page

Diamond Procurement, Sascha

      * got in touch with Element 6
           + we might be able to purchase diamonds, test them at CHESS, and
             select the good ones
           + would need to provide measurement results to E6.
           + 500 micron thick, 4.6x4.6 mm, 200 pounds each

Goniometer, Yi

      * gave report at last beamline meeting
           + satisfies our specs
           + precision of individual steps, .2 mdegree spec, see .1 mdegree
             yaw, .2 pitch measured
           + repeatability, no spec, but see 1 mdegree

Solenoid, Elliott

      * George and Elliott meeting with one person a week, assessing
        progress
      * 15 or 20 man-weeks of work left to do
      * about 50 items on list, prioritized
      * flow control on vapor-cooled leads abandoned, will set to max. flow
        with some margin
      * Work being done Mark, Scott, Giles, Dave, not a high priority task
        for them

Schedule of Cryoplant, Glenn

      * focus on CHL until solve the linac balancing problem
      * Data will speak at review next week
      * Director's monthly review: June suggested target

Short Sample Test, Eugene

      * Procurement on short sample test in Holland was on hold, has been
        revived
           + need to wind on a cylinder, tooling needed
           + test plan already written

Time-of-Flight, Mark

      * all TOF modules delivered, also support frame components machined
        by FSU have been delivered
      * discussions held on how and when to close out FSU contract
      * group reviewed TOF assembly procedure

Start Counter, Mark

      * no new news from FIU, last known status: scintillator ordered,
        scint. test stand done, working on assembly stand
      * prototype inner mandrill made, Tom working on proving scheme for
        carbon fiber support

FCAL Read-Out Sascha

      * waiting for power for detector
      * Sergey has tested pulser, not installed yet, CAEN 1495

CODA 3, Mark

      * working toward testing 6 crate read-out, 1 crate working now
           + data looks ok, getting warnings on timing
           + working through bugs in system components (ET system,
             configuration editor)
           + good response from CODA group on problems
      * working on auto-startup scripts, hard part finding all the things
        that need to be killed

EPICS, Hovanes

      * working with Vanik on microscope support structure
           + need to move three motors in coordinated fashion
           + want to lock out motor control when in final position
      * microscope voltage control
           + development based on API agreed to with Richard
      * need to start development for scalers in FADC for monitoring FCAL
           + software exists
                o Sascha: Roman wrote the system, uses shared memory

Active Collimator, Sascha

      * activity code given to ACC a long time ago
           + VME crate, ADCs: some ordering done

Online, Elliott

      * computers, accounts, directory policy written
      * online data challenge
           + original plan mid-Dec.
           + now plan will do a bigger one in late Spring
      * hoping to get rest of servers in counting house going soon
      * Eugene: need well-defined milestones for CODA group
      * install of fibers for networking: in FM now, will be bid out
           + talking with Tom
           + fibers will run directly from Counting House to individual
             crates
           + no patch panels
           + interim network working

Offline, Mark

      * bggen added to nightly builds
      * some extensions to CCDB discussed with Dmitry
      * gave Graham a version of our data management plan

Databases, Dmitry

      * version 0.9 ready to go
           + database connection time-out feature added
      * working with Sascha on the trigger database

Tracking, Simon

      * alignment of CDC wires with cosmics
           + put in offsets artificially, reproduced them in the
             measurements
           + some problem ares still

Configuration Management Plan, Elton

      * we are required to participate
      * we need to list critical specs for each detector system

New Staff Member Announcement, Eugene

      * Sergey will come in January

Target, Mark

      * the target will be super-cooled
           + there had been a plan to operate on the vapor pressure curve
             to reduce hydrogen volume
           + increased volume of hydrogen in the Hall needs approval by
             Dave Kausch
