[Halld-jlab] Tasks in the hall

Hi Fernando,
As you may recall, we are planning a second online data challenge for
some time after 1-Dec. I am currently putting together a Fasttrack-like
schedule of what needs to be done prior to the test with timelines and
dependencies. If things won't be ready by 1-Dec we'll push back the
start date of the challenge.
I'll have much more details later, see
https://halldweb1.jlab.org/wiki/index.php/Dec_Online_Data_Challenge_2013
for early planning documents.
Briefly:
1) Test full data stream from front-end crates through tape silo,
including L3 rejection and pre- and post-L3 monitoring, automated data
transfer to silo, full CODA3 including run control and farm control
manager, use latest FADC250 and F1TDC firmware implementing Dave A's
proposal for data format. Part of the test will involve reading out
front-end modules triggered by a random pulser via the TS, TI and SD.
The CTP, SSP, GTP system will not be used. Another part will involve
injecting monte-carlo data into the front-end ROC's for transfer as if
the data had been read out from the front-end modules.
2) High priority for the Online group, this tests most of the full DAQ
chain that will be used in production running. I understand DOE has
requested such a demonstration in the hall. Not tested at that time
include auxiliary scripts, automated bookkeeping, alarm system and other
things not essential for just moving data. We will use as many crates
as are available, probably 12 is a reasonable minimum. I'm hoping both
the FCAL and BCAL systems will have power and trigger connections to the TS.
3) Goal is to start in early Dec, depending on hardware availability.
I'm thinking the test should take less than a week, maybe just a few
days. It can be interrupted at any time and resumed quickly if e.g.
power goes off in the hall for an afternoon.
I'll have more details when I fill in the schedule and get updated
information on hardware completion dates from various people.
I agree, no powering any crates until you give the ok!
