Hi All,

In case you missed it or dismissed it, the website for volunteering for the
JLab Open House is now up and available. Hall-D will be a tour stop and we
will be bringing visitors into the hall and counting house. The plan is to bring
them in through the counting house and out through the truck ramp.

We are in need of a lot of volunteers to cover the long path visitors will be
walking through Hall-D. A couple of people have already signed up, but
we need a *lot* more. Physicists, Technicians, Engineers and Designers are
all needed. Visitors are interested in ALL aspects of what we do here so
please don’t hesitate to sign up.

If need be, I will be paying visits to folks to provide additional motivation
at the end of next week. I may be on my way to or from hockey at the time
so don’t be surprised if I have my stick in my hand. ;)

The website for signing up is:

Regards,
-David

> Dear Colleague,
>
> Every two years, we hold an Open House at Jefferson Lab; this is an open
> house year, and the event is scheduled for Saturday, May 17.
>
> The Open House is the lab’s most important and largest public outreach
> effort. In 2012, between 7,000 and 8,000 people attended; and we are
> expecting at least as large a turnout this year. The visitors were
> excited to see many of the lab’s facilities and were interested to learn
> about what we do.
>
> The key to the success of Open House is our volunteers – you and your
> co-workers, members of our user community, students, and even our family
> members over 13 years of age – are needed to fill a wide variety of
> volunteer taskings for the event.
>
> This year, we are planning to show portions of the CEBAF tunnel; Halls
> A, C and D; the Test Lab/TEDF complex, portions of CEBAF Center, the
> Machine Control Center and a portion of the Free-Electron Laser
> Facility. Many other lab workgroups will have displays and exhibits set
> up under tents and in conference rooms and lobby areas.
>
> We need volunteers of all sorts – those who like to speak to our
> visitors and those who prefer not speak, those with special knowledge
> and those who would like to be a pair of hands. We need scientists and
> non-scientists, engineers and non-engineers. You can work the whole
> event (8 hours) or a four-hour shift (morning or afternoon).
>
> To volunteer, you can sign up online at:
>
> Please sign up by Monday, April 14. If you have any questions, contact
> Open House Volunteer Coordinator Tina Menefee at menefee at jlab.org or
> 768-4030.
>
> I hope you can join us. It’s a fun time.
>
> Regards,
> Mont
