Private:Hall D Staff Meeting, February 10, 2014
Present: Eugene Chudakov (chair), Mark Dalton, Alexandre Deur, Hovanes
Egiyan, Sergey Furletov, Mark Ito, David Lawrence, Lubomir Pentchev, Yi
Qiang, Dmitry Romanov, Patrizia Rossi, Sascha Somov, Simon Taylor, Tim
Whitlatch, Glenn Young, Beni Zihlmann
Announcements, Eugene
* The machine had a significant success with beam traversing both
linacs and an arc and achieving the corresponding 2.2 GeV
benchmark. They were able to run at 50% efficiency during an eight
hour period. Tune-mode beam, 10 μA peak current, 60 Hz duty cycle,
250 μs pulse.
* Hall D construction experienced schedule slip in December (though
some fraction of that is expected) and January. We are missing
about 13 FTEs now relative to where we were at the beginning
December, due to various causes.
+ After this meeting we will go over the WBS to see where we can
deploy more scientific manpower from staff.
* Introductions: we welcomed Sergey Furletov and Alexandre Deur to
the group!
Engineering, Tim
* Beamline construction nearly complete
+ thin windows in tagger hall still to go
+ tagger photon beamline was in, taken out for survey
+ PRs in for line to dump
* tagger magnet mapping
+ there is a small hole in the map that is getting filled in
+ pair spectrometer next
* TAC installation pieces being designed
* BCAL cooling passed preliminary leak check, final check tomorrow
+ decision still to be made on front side pipe
* monitoring equipment for gas system almost there
* beamline in tagger hall, items left:
+ goniometer stand, survey needed
+ beamline up to magnet will be put in place
+ line going to dump, 4 or 5 weeks for parts
* cryotarget: Matt Marchlik making progress
* commissioning target: basic requirements came out of meeting, Matt
on that project too
Beni
* milestone: Cody and Bryan did full crate test of F125s
+ next week: full crate test in hall
+ still need to install loader by hand, then firmware loaded
over VME
* TOF geometry updated in the code, added the half-width counters
* gas system: mass flow controllers sent to company for
re-calibration
David
* current CODA release: relearning to be able to build components
* working on read-out lists for Monte Carlo data
* tomorrow: Halls B and D offline software review (internal), 2:30,
F224/5
Hovanes
* working on FCAL EPICS support
* with Orlando, working on SiPM voltages, setting them up in CSS and
a MySQL database
* have two cameras for the hall, in case there are devices with
visual displays that cannot be accessed remotely
+ trying to develop a count: if people have need of these, let
Hovanes know
* electrical power is on for all physics racks
* Lubomir: TLD rack in counting house, status?
+ Mark will look into it
Alexandre
* working on tagger mapping
* getting ready for pair spectrometer mapping
+ need a grid proposal from Sascha
Simon
* preparing for start of data challenge
+ some failure modes discovered
* continuing work on alignment of tracking chambers
Mark I.
* working on data challenge
+ prepared a proposal for versions of software
+ ran test of 1000 50k-event jobs, surprisingly large number of
failures
+ ran additional test of 10,000 1k-event jobs, fed to Simon for
debugging on a small data file
Sascha
* working on pulser trigger read-out of FCAL
+ pedestals look reasonable
+ will go to new CODA release, added run control features
* plan to run three BCAL crates
* Eugene: noise in FCAL coming from C-W bases
+ microstructure at 200 MHz for about 100 ns, repeats at about
500 kHz, different amplitudes, of order 100 mV
+ Glenn noise needs to be filtered, sometimes a choke is enough,
Martin Purschke of BNL an expert on this issue with these
bases
Yi
* solenoid:
+ PXI system moved back to Hall
+ work on solving the black-out issue
+ work on automatic control of the quench detector, there is a
missing file
+ lots of things to do before the power test
+ will install Hall probe, location and probe identified
* BCAL
+ with Orlando, Elton, and Jack, getting supply voltage for
individual wedges consistent with plan
+ will require two parameters in database per channel
* working on PWA with Carlos Salgado and a student
+ converting ROOT to GAMP file
Lubomir
* success in test of inserting FDC into the magnet
+ done on Thursday, large crew, a lot was learned
+ pull back today was easier than expected
+ technique for holding the 50 cables during move developed
+ a gallon of Flourinert was lost
* will start testing again
+ Cody loading new firmware in F125s
+ will use Beni's mini-database to test
+ if fast read-out works, should be done by first week of March
+ Tim: perhaps then can start cabling the CDC
Mark D.
* wrote JANA plugin to take raw DAQ data to ROOT trees for FCAL
checking
* working on BCAL trigger system
* working on BCAL reconstruction
* planning for online data challenge
