[Halld-jlab] Equipment Power OFF

Hi all,

Based on previous discussions, I would like for you to consider turning
off the electronics (crates, LV and HV chassis) during this beam off
period. Saving energy (money and less CO2 in the atmosphere) and
possibly extended longevity of the electronics are appropriate to
consider. For reference, power consumption is nominally 1.5kW-hr per
chassis or ~ 90kW-hr total for Hall D.

Although there is reluctance in switching equipment on and off, I would
recommend switching off any equipment that is not in use or that will
not be used for a period of at least 2 weeks. The power supplies in use
have soft start attributes which limit in-rush currents to safe
operating levels if performed in a controlled manner, i.e. remote or
front panel.

A power outage period is anticipated for Hall D, probably in June
according to Tim, but the actual schedule is not known at this time. Tim
will send an email at the appropriate time.

Please, send me an estimate of expected usage (schedule would be grate)
for each sub-system and we will start shutting off equipment in 2 weeks.
I would also suggest considering this as a normal part of hall
operations in the future.

Thanks for your input in advance and best regards,
Fernando
