Private:Hall D Staff Meeting, May 18, 2015
 From GlueXWiki
Present: Eugene Chudakov (chair), Alexandre Deur, Hovanes Egiyan, Sergey
Furletov, Mark Ito, David Lawrence, Paul Mattione, Serguei Pozdniakov,
Elton Smith, Sascha Somov, Justin Stevens, Simon Taylor, Beni Zihlmann

Eugene

  * NSAC meets July 16 on long range plan
  * S&T review July 30[?]
  * Solenoid
      o ad hoc committee met
          + same people reviewed 1st quench
          + no smoking gun
      o magnet at 300 A now, nothing very unusual seen
          + 60 Hz ripple on power supply seen, could be instrumental
          + ramping up, coil 2 A, oscillation observed, seen on pick-up
            coil as well, in range from 10-40 A.
          + ramping down, at low current (< 100 A), spikes seen
          + cryo effect, motion effect not ruled out
          + low current tests done
      o Physics will conduct a review
      o will warm up to liquid N temp., probably next week
          + refrigerator has to go to 300 K
      o flux jumping still a possibility
      o training quenches still a possibility
          + in this case going to 1500 A would help in long run
      o lost less than 1/2 of He in recent quench, < 1000 liters, about $3k
          + does not make sense to build He recovery system for $200k
            and a year of effort

Eugene asked for personal lists of tasks now that run has ended:

David

  * translations tables: system to edit, keep history
  * simulations for CPP, MWPC design

Sergey F.

  * DAQ: why hardware not working at high rate?
  * FADC-125 problem
  * in Fall event builder worked will, but in Spring problems
      o need to control which NIC is used
  * should we keep things on in hall? crates: yes, detectors: it depends
  * chamber tests with Lubomir, hard to find problems
      o huge background in tagger hall
      o new home? behind pair spect.?

Elton

  * firmware for F-250: specify what we want
  * FCAL familiarization
      o understand trigger for hadrons for CPP
  * calibration, BCAL, layer 4, using μ decays

Simon

  * using long cosmic run for CDC calibration
  * measuring efficiency of chambers from Spring run
  * η studies

Beni

  * TOF timing calibration
  * TOF energy calibration
  * look at CDC issues
      o drift time spectra, mystery of long times

Mark

  * codeprofiling
  * git conversion
  * version management
  * offline web page
  * data challenge 3
  * spring run simulations
  * calibration, TOF, start counter

Alexandre

  * analyzing beamline data from the last run

Sascha

  * understand trigger performance
      o reconstruct trigger thresholds
      o some runs not good
      o more monitoring of read-out lists
      o track trigger path
      o run playback with different configurations
  * pair spect.
      o coherent peak seen
      o integrate field map
      o put into reconstruction
  * proposal for production of ω
  * η rare decays
      o implement island algorithm

Justin

  * PR slide, coherent peak and φ-distribution of ρ polarization
      o continue on analysis, produce note
  * DIRC
      o MAPMTs, with CLAS design, fits in $2M cap
      o internal GlueX review, end of summer

Sergey P.

  * 2 independent servers for hardware control from inventory database
      o improvements in monitoring and control
      o prepare database for further usage

Paul

  * RF monitoring, calibration, documentation
      o 100 ps jitter seen
  * scaler GUIs
      o start counter done
      o Hovanes has added needed waveform records
  * GlueX talk at Users' Meeting
  * offline monitoring, upgrade of scripts
  * analysis: better documentation on manpower deployment
  * reconstruction monitoring: tracking efficiencies, resolution
  * amplitude analysis: proposing changes to AmpTools

Hovanes

  * FCAL voltage control: improvements, but fixes
  * microscope voltage controls: stand-alone scripts only now
  * motor control for microscope support
  * scaler read-out
  * discriminator threshold read-out
  * will archive scaler values, huge increase in amount of data
      o dead bands have to be set, usual scheme of absolute or relative
        dead bands not appropriate
  * Nerses is working on
      o missing HV alarms, with Lubomir
      o re-organization of IOC launching
