Private:Hall D Staff Meeting, May 4, 2015
Present: Eugene Chudakov (chair), Mark Dalton, Alexandre Deur, Hovanes
Egiyan, Sergey Furletov, Mark Ito, David Lawrence, Paul Mattione,
Lubomir Pentchev, Serguei Pozdniakov, Patrizia Rossi, Elton Smith,
Sascha Somov, Justin Stevens, Simon Taylor, Beni Zihlmann
We focused on lessons learned and things that need doing based on the
experience from the run just ended.
Eugene
* Current run had many successes
o Diamonds
o DAQ
o only one week of running
* Property: please complete any outstanding property inventory items
Patrizia
* NSAC is working on recommendations for the long-term plan, but they
are not yet ready for distribution.
David
* automatic raid disk switching not yet working
* RCDB not finalized
* extra header words from F-125s, run 2931 not understood yet
* instructions for browsing the online monitoring histograms are on
the ops wiki
Elton
* taking more BCAL data, cosmics, for pedestals and LEDs
* need an
o end of run checklist
o extended shutdown checklist
o perhaps can use same system as the shift checklist
* many more monitoring histograms, including 2γ mass
* air leak needs fixing[?]
* FCAL HV failures a lot fewer, 6 this time vs. 100 last time
* monitoring improved for FCAL
* more to go on FCAL calibration constants
o Will McGinley looking at $pi;^0 width minimization
o Matt Shepherd will be here on sabbatical starting tomorrow
* FCAL-BCAL trigger much improved
Justin
* offline monitoring on current data being run
* data shows rho peak
* search for ω in progress
Beni
* CDC: installation of HV filter boxes helped, still some noisy channels
* CDC wire positions: Mike Staib working on this
* with thick radiator, some CDC inner rings tripped, but with low trip
point
Sergey F.
* DAQ working, limited by hardware at this point
* single-block only now, limited by CAEN TDCs
* with high rate trigger, see 32 kHz with 97% livetime, no CAEN, no
FDC F!-TDCs
* event recorder my limit at high rate, multi-case may select wrong NIC
Simon
* Timing offset calibration biggest current problem
* position of beamline components inconsistent between
survey/construction-plans and tracking, target 6 mm short in tracking
Sasha
* good run for trigger
* FCAL standalone much less junk, 70% real events now
* straight track trigger
o FCAL TOF not so good
o FCAL ST 20% good events, occupancy uniform
* main physics trigger, FCAL-BCAL
o problems: occasional time out of sync, GTP strangeness
o works well generally
o high yield of πs
o took mode 7, mode 8
o took BCAL, FCAL, BCAL-FCAL and PS triggers all at same time
* PS trigger worked well
o could see coherent peak in PS
* data taken with new CAEN TDC driver, worked
o one issue: slot number missing in data
Lubomir
* DCs stable, can use 10^-4 radiator with no field now at 100 nA
o everything upstream is now vacuum, not air
* took data with HV 50 V above nominal, no effect seen on efficiency
* spare package in tagger hall
o sees degraded electrons from radiator, but also many photons
Alexandre
* prediction from MC for empty target running needed was too
pessimistic, same for π^0 production
* shift personnel training sometimes showed holes, examples:
o alarm system volume turned down
o target not monitored
* communication with MCC needs improvement
o we were often unaware of what they were working on
* Eugene: beam parameters sometimes wandered
Mark I.
* communication on offline software issues might need improvement
Hovanes
* controls did not have many problems
* goniometer work, splice pieces from Ken Livingston with our system
o target no centered on rotation axes, so rotation caused
translation as side effect
o may be issues with other enhancements with running with coherent
peak above half the electron beam energy
* new scaler scheme no fully implemented, need GUIs
* TAC commissioning not done
Mark D.
* BCAL pedestals: fear that pulse-by-pulse pedestal determination not
accurate enough, may do better averaging over larger window
o 4 samples are summed and then bits truncated
o other schemes will be explored
