Hall D Staff Meeting, August 8, 2016
From Gluex PRIVATE Wiki
Present: Alexander Austregesilo, Eugene Chudakov, Alexandre Deur, Sergey
Furletov, Mark Ito, Paul Mattione, Patrizia Rossi, Simon Taylor, Beni
Zihlmann
Eugene
* In April there will be a workshop on retirement.
* The FY 17 budget is still unknown
o 300 k$ set aside for a L3 farm
* The issue with MOUs with foreign institutions has still not been
resolved.
* Solenoid magnet power supply is supposed to be ready this week. Plan
is to start testing next week at 1350 A.
* Thomas Brittan has been selected for the post-doc position
* Starting to review applications for the staff position
Sergey
* investigating high luminosity performance of the DAQ
o many parameters, hard to isolate the essential ones
* goal 100 MB/s capability per crate (200 MB/s would be better)
* now can get to 50 MB/s per crate
* software is likely bottleneck
* working with Dave Abbott and Bryan Moffit
* to go to greater than 100 MB/s: several directions possible:
increase # of crates, # of controllers, go to fiber read-out
* load is roughly balanced among modules in crates, crate-to-crate
Simon
* checked in tracking code, used drift time info from FDC
o improvement seen
o studying resolution with revised code
* multi-photon analysis
o added 7, 8 photon channels
o added e^+ e^-</sip> + nγ channels
Paul
* submitted CLAS analysis note
* tomorrow, analysis meeting: present tracking resolution results
* analysis launch on-going
o worked with plug-in authors to insure reasonability
o contributed 20 plug-ins, channels with strangeness, will start
looking at a selection
Alexander A.
* working on running the analysis launch
o 14 people contributed, more than 50 channels analyzed
o second batch started with new plugins, 70% done now
* new monitoring launch with recent code improvements proposed
* looking at 3πn and 4πn plugins[?]
* continuing work on FDC performance
* looking at systematics of beam energy shifts
Mark I.
* running the sim1.1 simulations, 8000 jobs, about 150 have problems,
being sorted
* built a new release of sim-recon: 2.2.0. Building against both ROOT5
and ROOT6
* working on TOF tube current problem, ordered extra spare tubes from
Hamamatsu
Beni
* looking at timing resolution at lower HV
* comparing beam data and cosmics at same too-high voltage, cosmics
worse, measurement of discount factor due to geometry of cosmic triggers
* comparing cosmic data a different voltages see similar resolution
* must set thresholds lower
* need to prepare a run plan for determining settings at beginning of
next run
o channel-by-channel HV adjustment
o channel-by-channel discriminator threshold adjustment
* rates are stable except for high-rate conditions where central PMTs
have gain compromised by too-high current requirement
Alexandre D.
* working on electron beam energy determination studies
o there is an analysis note in the DocDB
o talking with accelerator and Doug Higinbotham about
discrepancies in the data
o looking at feasibility of using tagger magnet to monitor energy
* received radiation monitors
o one for the Hall to replace loaners from Hall C
o one to be used in the fast-access system
Eugene
Final items:
* tomorrow: emergency exercise on accelerator site
* some end-of-year spending: TOF PMTs, spare HV modules for future
projects
Patrizia
* asks about follow-up to mini-review on high-intensity DAQ running
* Eugene: numbers by the end of the month
